Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

See, I just don't see it as "competition for my collectible dollars."

I'll be getting both as I think they're both just great collectibles. The NECA is just damn close to a perfect, suit accurate sculpt. The Medi is a fantastic sculpt as well, if not totally suit accurate. So, as far as I'm concerned, HT can just go hog wild with their sculpt.

But, I've got a 24" Marmit that's suit sculpt accurate and the smaller Marmit statues that are incredible sculpts themselves.

I just don't see narrowing a collection down to only 1:6 figures. That is just too limiting. I like variety.

Ah! I think I read ya better now, Sabres. You're obviously just a very devoted ALIEN fan/collector and like to collect all kinds of different products from the series. And that's totally cool.

I'm a fan myself, but not at all a completist with this property. In fact, I'm not a true completist with anything anymore. I've pretty much stopped buying toys, with a few expections. I consider high-end 1:6 figures a step up from the average toy, and my collecting is focused on 1:6 figures, statues, and prop replicas now. And I like to collect things from all kinds of different licenses, mostly movie-based. But I tend to only want one definitive and iconic incarnation of a particular character, with very few exceptions. That's why I will only want one 1:6 Alien from the original film... and I will go with the one that I think is best (at this point, who knows... but I do like knowing that the eventual Hot Toys one will fit in with the rest of my collection).

Anyway, that's just my personal angle on things. Of course, mileage varies and to each his own. This hobby is fun and interesting enough that we can all enjoy it in very different ways. :duff

And I read you better now too dude. So I apologize if any of my previous posts came off as aggressive. I totally understand where you're coming from with your collection. I used to collect EVERYTHING. If there was a horror or sci-fi movie and there were figures or vehicles for them, I collected them. It was really out of hand. So, I decided one day to just concentrate on my favorite properties (Alien/Predator). I've stayed away from "figures" for the most part. Sticking mainly with model kits and statues. That was until Hot Toys started dropping they're kick ass stuff.

But again, I understand wanting to keep some consitency and control in your collection.

Do you have a link to some pics? I'd really like to see it.

And here's a link to mine, if you're interested.

Wow! That is some AMAZING stuff, dude. :google :google :google Half of that I didn't even know was in existence!! Outstanding collection!! :rock

Unfortunately, a lot of my stuff is currently in various state of storage. However, the ex-wife is getting married in July and moving, so I will reacquire the 5 bedroom home we once shared. Just me and my stuff. :joy This will allow for proper displaying of my collection and I will indeed be taking and sharing many pics. :duff

Seriously, though, that is an impressive ALIEN slate you have there. And now I completely understand why you'd want the Medicom RAH Alien. You must have that!

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

Interesting read here in the past few pages on individuals interests in the collecting world.

Personally, I am a devoted Alien fan and will be adding all of the aforementioned figures to my collection. I must have the Medicom, because that Alien looks so damn sexy and accurate. If not in proportions, then in sculpt of individual skin sections. Already have both Neca on order because they are so affordable and beautiful in their own way. And of course, now that I have become a Hot Toys whore lately, the HT will be joining my collection of whatever other crew members HT feels so inclined to grace us with. Even a Jones.

:D

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

Just a little reaction to what somebody posted earlier about "limited" articulation on the NECA figure.
I think you'll be surprised at how well articulated that figure is.
The fact is that the HT figures, for all their rubber covering, are not all that good in the articulation department. The AvP and AvP-R figures can barely handle a 90º angle in elbows and knees, and the lack of cut joints around the biceps and upper thigh areas also severely limit poses. The Aliens warrior has a much better range of movement in elbows and knees, but the fragility of the joints and the loose ankles practically negate the aforementioned advantages.
Don't get me wrong, I love my HT figures, but I'm not blind to their short-comings.
As for the Medicom alien, I'm sure the suit will severely limit poses. There's just no way a figure covered in rubber will be able to keep the type of articulation we're used to seeing from Medicom. I'm guessing it will be even less posable than the HT AvP figures.
So, yeah, I'm hoping for a 1/6 scale figure from NECA...

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

Any news?
Has anybody pre-ordered this at etoysjapan or blister? Or amazon?
Any other places taking pre-orders?

I emailed amazon.jp regarding US orders. The response was polite but no go. I found it to be the cheapest I believe. But as of now I can't afford it...for now...:D

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

Damn!
I'm starting to get nervous...
Even the RAH Royal Guard is already up for pre-order and that was showcased after the Alien.
Could it be this will be a Japan-only exclusive?

Also, has anybody ordered from blister.jp, or is it Japan-only as well?

If it doesn't show up soon on SS, I'm going to have to buy one from Yahoo Japan. :google

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

I believe SSC won't pass up on this figure. I know about 1% of this business..:lol. But I think from previous Medicom RAH releases, SSC will have this available for pre-order around June say close to $200(?). So when I go online to see the prices for pre-orders from Japanese websites. Well like Amazon.JP some sites have the figure priced under $150 (USD) I believe. Sorry to ramble...:duh

$200 sounds about right for SS. Hopefully a little less though. :monkey3

Pre-ordering from Japan is fine, but the fig is still going to be around $160. Then factor in shipping from Japan to the U.S. and you've already hit the $200 mark anyway. Then you've got who knows how many people doing who knows what with the package while it's in transit. Not to mention customs, if they decide to look in it....

I'll take my chances with SS everytime.

Actually, I've ordered a lot of stuff from Japanese retailers such as Hobby Link Japan and Hobby Search, and a Medicom figure shipped via Express Mail, usually only costs about $25 and arrives in only a few days and the packages have never been opened or examined and have always arrived in excellent condition! I've never had a problem.

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

I'm really waiting for HLJ to have it on pre-order. Then, if SST does carry it, I can compare prices.
What worries me is that SST still has not put this one up. And neither has HLJ...

HLJ is always very late listing their stuff; most places have preordered and sold out before HLJ even lists theirs! Which sometimes can be a blessing if it is a fast seller everywhere and you miss it! :D

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

Still no news on a preorder for this figure. I hope SS puts them up soon, like this week!

:D
