Medicom Yoda vs Hasbro?

It all boils down to price though, something I noticed that few are mentioning. Hasbro's Yoda can be had for a reasonable $20. Don't look to even touch a Medicom Yoda for less than $80, unless you find a desperate freak, and then still, I haven't seen him for less than $50.

That's why I sold my Medicom Yoda. I don't think the sculpt is as good as other people seem to think, and the paint job is just okay. It's nice -- the nicest Yoda so far -- but neither the Medicom or Hasbro are clearly the ultimate Yoda. I got the Hasbro Yoda & Luke set for $12.50. I'm just going to wait for Sideshow to come out with one at some point.

If you must have a Yoda and must have the best regardless of the price, get the Medicom. Otherwise, you might want to consider the Hasbro or even just waiting and not getting anything.

Exactly. I picked up the AOTC Yoda for about $15 MIB off EbaY. He's an inexpensive, poseable (to some extent), perfectly suitable stand-in until Sideshow completes and releases theirs.

Can someone tell me which version of Yoda the "AOTC" version is? Is it different from the Degobah Yoda or the Yoda that has it's legs molded together? How many 1/6 Yodas did Hasbro release?

Thanks!

The Hasbro AOTC Yoda comes with separate legs, not much more poseability though. I had to modify mine up quite a bit to hold more dramatic poses. He also comes with a Jedi chair, cane and that tv pad thingamajig, oh and force lighting. For the price I like this version the best. Sorry, I dont have any pics of him in the box, picked mine up on E-bay.

Ok, just went through eBay. I am guessing this is the Yoda you have?

Dude..get the medicom...if its too pricey..then I would say wait until you can afford it..the hasbro one is not worth it.

From the photos I don't really care too much for the Medicom Yoda (especially at $100 plus). Saw one today in a shop and it didn't impress me too much. I planned on cutting it up to articulate it and paint it, so Hasbro it is.

Yes, that's the one to pick up. Don't listen to the Medicommies. :lol You'll wind up dropping too much money on a Medi Yoda and end up doing this: :banghead:banghead:banghead. The Hasbro is considerably less of a burden on your wallet and perfectly sufficient until Sideshow finally finishes up theirs.

That yoda looks constipated...its ridiculous..I wouldnt buy that for $5.

Don't support Hasblow, it's bad enough this section has such a hard-on for their crap to begin with. It's rare for me to say this...Medicom is the way to go. :rotfl

Good luck! and keep us posted on your progress!

Holy crap! 100 bucks? I had no idea, yeah I guess go with Hasbro. But VCD Yoda does pop up on here for a great price from time to time.

Stroll through ebay- all Medicom Yodas are at least $150+ (asking price, not sure how many actually sell for that amount). The Medi-Yoda I saw yesterday in a shop was $100. And honestly it's not a great sculpt, IMO- has about as many drawbacks as the Hasbro one does, but the Hasbro face looks better from the photos I've seen (or can be made to look better with decent paint). I'd hate to buy a $100 Medicom and chop it up for articulation and paint it. If it were cheaper, say $20, I'd get it. But the absurd prices of these actions figures these days is out of control- I also used to collect some Dragon stuff, and prices started in the $30 range. Now things are artificially inflated up to $160 plus. It's just silly. So where I can save a buck, I will. :)

I agree- Hasbro figures and most outfits are utter crap. But Hasbro made some great items- Speeder bikes, Dewbacks, the R2 and R5 type droids, the 3p0 and Deathstar droid aren't that bad with some mods, and other some accessory items that Sideshow doesn't and never will manufacture. So, I don't think anyone has a "hard-on" for Hasbro stuff, some of us just recognize the good stuff when we see it that isn't available elsewhere. :)

I hear you man, and that comment wasn't directed solely at you. But yeah those sound like wacky eBay prices, I think last week someone sold a VCD Yoda on here for like 50 bucks. So they can be found for reasonable prices. I think I paid 45 for mine, and yes Hasbro has their moments, not many but they do have them. :duff

$50 is not reasonable for what you get, and my post was made based solely on the "cost" of the Yoda. Something you later agreed with. You guys made it seem like Medi Yoda's worth the going price... :lol:rolleyes::p

Aside from the vehicles/domesticated creatures (dewback/tauntaun), and aliens (who nobody's touching so that's pretty much all we've got), the only things I'd recommend from Hasbro are the droids (Medi's look like ass), Dooku and Jango, namely sculpt-wise. The latter both need a complete overhaul.

Oh come on, the Medicom droids don't look like ass. Aside from possible scale issues (and the lack of plating on C-3PO), they're really the best 1/6 scale droids that we've gotten so far. The issue, as with Medi Yoda, is the price. We don't know the list price for the droids yet, but you can bet it will be at least 8 times the price of the Hasbro ones. That's when you have to stop and ask if it's really worth the extra money.

Your bug issue with Hasbro's droids is that the droids are out of scale which makes them unacceptable. Do I smell hypocrisy? :dunno:lol

Let's not forget, 3PO isn't chromed (but for some reason Hasbro was able to do so ), and R2 is nothing short of a Star Wars pepper shaker in size. Let's not even get into price. At $180 a pop, it's nothing short of a pimp slap to those who collect true 1:6 Star Wars. Those who collect the Medis will surely not only drop the cash but look at it like Japanese manna.

EDIT: I can't even find them on Sideshow's website. Were they canceled?!. :lol

My issue with the Hasbro droids isn't scale, it's that they seem cheap and toy-like. They're still the best overall choice when you factor in price, don't get me wrong. I'm just saying that it's silly to claim that the Hasbro ones are better than the Medicom ones in terms of quality, because I really don't think they are.

The Medicom ones still haven't even been officially solicited, which I why they aren't listed on Sideshow's site yet, and why we don't know the price for sure.

When you consider Value + Cost, I don't care what you say, the Hasbro are better... period! The quality is well worth the change (in most cases sub $20) they cost. I managed to pick up the 3PO w/book for $5 + shipping and the WalMart Ex R2 w/accessory arms for about $25 + shipping. Medicom? No. Nowhere near the $180 Medicom price tag. As for not being officially announced, if memory serves, like Han and Anakin before them, weren't both droids up on Sideshow's site sans pics for preorder?
