Origins Kurgan Crusader
Just thought I'd start a thread about things I've discovered in trying to make a Medievil Kurgan - hopefully DA and Les will also add anything they discover
Anyways..........
I've previously posted my attempts at sculpting - I'm sure I can do a better one in the future but in the interests of trying to get this a bit further progressed I'll skip that and keep going.
I was watching Highlander to get some screen shots of the modern kurgan (I was wanting to customise a modern one as the kurgan pre-head shave) and I noticed that his left sleeve was EXACTLY the same as the Medievil Kurgan. To test this theory I removed the sleeve from the jacket and added it to my custom - and it worked perfectly. This is attached to a simple fur sack-style "jacket" - the detail on it isn't important as its almost totally covered by the armour. Thankfully I now have used something other than the sword and the body from the original!!!
I also noticed from one of the close ups of the NECA Kurgan that he appeared to be wearing leather pants - rather than a scrunched material I had thought. Again - I grabbed a spare pair of leather pants donated by Angel (I had done a bit of a round robin with my Angel's and their pants - City of Angel got Duncan McLeod's baggy pants and BTVS Angel swapped with Angellus so that the evil one was wearing the leather) and again it looks pretty good. Strangely length wasn't an issue despite the change in body sizes - I was prepared though as The Master had donated his boots to the Kurgan cause. I just now need to add the foldover bits like Aragorn's boots.
It looks to me like Maul's spare pair of hands might make pretty decent gauntlets - that will be tested.
I've also ordered some chainmail leggings (from www.wartoys.com) from one of the Timeline series figures that I will be dismembering to make the chainmail on both modern and medievil kurgan (btw - the chainmail is black - not grey like on SSC's).
A replacement headsculpt has come from www.h2creative.com (HH027 if you are looking for it - I highly recommend Lonnie! Connor is HH026). The head had to be dremmelled out a bit to fit on the sideshow body but with my new hobby drill that was easy. I'm planning to dremmel it out a bit more so that I can add rooted hair (from www.restoredoll.com). I wasn't originally going to do this but the Kurgan's hair does extend out under his helm. Thanks to DA I'm currently attempting to paint the sculpts.
I also noticed that the Kurgan's coat appears to actually be a shiny satin type purple rather than the plain purple I first thought - any comments ?
Anyway - that's where I'm at - probably updates as such till I get my NECA Kurgan next week to use as a reference (in particular for the greaves and shoulder & arm armour) - and I still need to order some brown leather type material for the belt and leg armour.
A close up photo of the greaves would be appreciated as I could start sculpting that this weekend.
EDIT - almost immediately after this I knocked over my kurgan and broke his helm - thankfully it superglued back together ok.....
