Just thought I'd start a thread about things I've discovered in trying to make a Medievil Kurgan - hopefully DA and Les will also add anything they discover

Anyways..........

I've previously posted my attempts at sculpting - I'm sure I can do a better one in the future but in the interests of trying to get this a bit further progressed I'll skip that and keep going.

I was watching Highlander to get some screen shots of the modern kurgan (I was wanting to customise a modern one as the kurgan pre-head shave) and I noticed that his left sleeve was EXACTLY the same as the Medievil Kurgan. To test this theory I removed the sleeve from the jacket and added it to my custom - and it worked perfectly. This is attached to a simple fur sack-style "jacket" - the detail on it isn't important as its almost totally covered by the armour. Thankfully I now have used something other than the sword and the body from the original!!!

I also noticed from one of the close ups of the NECA Kurgan that he appeared to be wearing leather pants - rather than a scrunched material I had thought. Again - I grabbed a spare pair of leather pants donated by Angel (I had done a bit of a round robin with my Angel's and their pants - City of Angel got Duncan McLeod's baggy pants and BTVS Angel swapped with Angellus so that the evil one was wearing the leather) and again it looks pretty good. Strangely length wasn't an issue despite the change in body sizes - I was prepared though as The Master had donated his boots to the Kurgan cause. I just now need to add the foldover bits like Aragorn's boots.

It looks to me like Maul's spare pair of hands might make pretty decent gauntlets - that will be tested.

I've also ordered some chainmail leggings (from www.wartoys.com) from one of the Timeline series figures that I will be dismembering to make the chainmail on both modern and medievil kurgan (btw - the chainmail is black - not grey like on SSC's).

A replacement headsculpt has come from www.h2creative.com (HH027 if you are looking for it - I highly recommend Lonnie! Connor is HH026). The head had to be dremmelled out a bit to fit on the sideshow body but with my new hobby drill that was easy. I'm planning to dremmel it out a bit more so that I can add rooted hair (from www.restoredoll.com). I wasn't originally going to do this but the Kurgan's hair does extend out under his helm. Thanks to DA I'm currently attempting to paint the sculpts.

I also noticed that the Kurgan's coat appears to actually be a shiny satin type purple rather than the plain purple I first thought - any comments ?

Anyway - that's where I'm at - probably updates as such till I get my NECA Kurgan next week to use as a reference (in particular for the greaves and shoulder & arm armour) - and I still need to order some brown leather type material for the belt and leg armour.

A close up photo of the greaves would be appreciated as I could start sculpting that this weekend.

EDIT - almost immediately after this I knocked over my kurgan and broke his helm - thankfully it superglued back together ok.....

Yeah.... at least this one was only knocked over on the desk.

No camera atm so no photo's - I'll try get one once the head has been painted :)

I'm still attempting to sculpt some armor bits, and thanks to GB's great help with the pics I can honestly say that you guys can expect some progress soon on that front. Maybe even this weekend. :D

Again apologies in advance for lack of pics - they are coming probably in a week.

Received the Highlander comic today - Kurgan Moscow circa 1956 looks like he's a potential custom in the future.

Finished painting the replacement head for modern kurgan last night (the final battle version) - looks pretty good - even managed using doll hair for the remaining bit of hair he has - in the process worked out I need a better dremmel tool for completely hollowing out a head as threading the hair through the small hole I had was pretty painful. I have to add the scar and safety pins to his neck though, trim the hair to accurate length and dye the bottom of it red.

Medevil Kurgan head has had two undercoats done (the dark flesh tone and normal fleshtone) and now needs to be dry brushed with the pale flesh tone I mixed up and used on modern kurgan. Also need to correct the lip colour on both heads.

Anyone who has any ideas on how to approach the arm armour please either post here or PM - I tried looking for parts from a knight figure to steal but had no luck - tried www.war-toys.com, echo-base.com, monkey-depot.com. Let me know if there are any other places that stock parts - I'm thinking maybe something from Ignite or Timeline might have appropriate armour (its almost full plate styling).

Lord Az...I forgot you were working on a MK!
As you know by now, so am I, and perhaps DA, so there are several in the works now. But your's is the pilot one.
Hope you can get us pics bro! Looking forward to seeing it.

Good luck and share any insights, as we will try to do with you.

Can someone please send Azrael a freakin digicam!

King - I put a really crappy pic up in the Kurgan argument thread just to tell some people to STFU :)

Seriously though I could do with some pics of the neca's armoured right arm and any suggestions on how to handle it. Apart from the belt, thigh armour and cloak this is all that's left to complete. I managed to add the plume to the helm, sculpt up the greaves, add the fold over leather to the boots and sculpt the shoulder armour today. I added a cloak into the pic (its just tucked under the shoulder armour to hold it in place) and I still need to paint the sculpted armour but all in all a productive day.

I also more or less finished painting the head for the Modern Final Battle Kurgan - he real hair instead of the crappy sculpted stuff and he turned out great. Now I just need a Kurgan body to throw it on.

So I've just discovered this thread and and been reading through LA's progress.

What ever happened to this? Was it ever completed? Are there pics anywhere?

LA, I'm also real impressed with the few pics I saw of your Napoleonic Duncan. Did you finish it as well? What else in the Highlander realm have you done?
