You do realize that fanart you've shown is based on Mega Man X with HD like graphics (which is what he's going for since the game was on SNES) so it does already exist. It's a darker Mega Man series of games that has a Mega Man named X that works with Zero (who is more than hinted to have killed off the original Mega Man and the other characters before losing his memory and becoming a good guy). Mega Man X's style was made for people who grew up with Mega Man to keep interest with a darker story and characters.

So back to the topic at hand and off the nuts of anime...
ditch the lame anime stuff

Heh. I like how you say off the nuts of anime and then take another *** at it. By the sounds of it you're being closed minded and talk as if anime can't be dark or mature when it's quite the opposite compared to say cartoons over here. Sometimes it can even go way over the top like Berserk (the following pics aren't even near the worst seen in the series). :lol If you still think it's just all lame and childish looking after this, then I don't know what to think.

I'm all for a darker Megaman game, especially if it bridges the normal series with Mega Man X. I always thought the newer games would do that until they went 8-bit retro. :lol

lol I always wondered if there would finally be a game to connect Mega Man and Mega Man X. I can't complain about the old school 8-bit retro games though. :)

The thing about Mega Man that has always appealed to me is that the story exists only in your head. They added a bit more story in X, but it was still really just nuggets of a story that let you draw your own conclusions.

If they ever attempted to "spell it out", they would inevitably alienate *everyone* since every player concocts a story unique to them when playing.

As appealing as a game to bridge the gap between the classic series and X sounds, I think it would end up being disastrous because everyone already has their own idea of how that story played out. Think Star Wars before there were prequels.

Plus, if Mega Man were to go out like a punk, I don't know what I would do. You'd probably hear about me on the news.

Uhhh, duh. But it was hardly any darker in tone, just slightly more refined.

I don't know about there being a bridge that connects the classic MM to MMX, but have you guys ever played the Mega Man Zero games? It furthers the story and chronicles the events after the end of the MMX era.

Basically,

Mega Man dies.

Anime sucks, that is all.

You're entitled to your opinion, but there's an ocean of anime out there, many of which follow different styles, from the standard cutesy aesthetic the medium is known for (unfortunately) to very realistic animation styles. I think you're being a bit too narrow-minded, but that's your prerogative so I can't judge you for it. It's like you're saying "I don't like music."

I love anime, but very specific types of anime.

Yeah. The Mega Man Zero games are probably the darkest. I don't think it's really a spoiler that Mega Man is dead since every Mega Man fan has already played them, but I wish they didn't change Zero's design (although I've opened up to it a lot more since). Great series and extremely difficult of course.

Agreed. Like I said before, it has an incredible amount of influence in Japanese pop culture itself which makes sense since it's their main thing there so it's just kinda obvious that not every anime is going to be aimed for children (unfortunately you were right when you said that's pretty much what it is over here since they don't show the good stuff). Voice acting is even a very respectable profession taken seriously in Japan (which is why a lot of their voice acting sounds a lot better than our dubs).

Anime sucks, that is all.

So much so that your precious MGS and SF wouldn't even be around without the influence. Sharp thinking there.

No it's not. It's like saying I enjoy music, I just hate rap. Same can apply to animation.

I can enjoy some animation. I hate anime.

I'll admit, that's a better analogy, but I think you're missing out. 'Anime' is a blanket term that is ascribed to a collection of massively varied forms of animation styles. In a sense, it's the same way people can see one Disney animated film that looks completely different compared to another.

But I digress, that's not what this threads about. I'm sure Mega Man Online won't look exactly like that teaser anyway.

Yeah. Animation has so many different styles it can't just be lumped into one category like rap. When you look at the grown up stuff (not including hentai which I think is tasteless) it's a more mature form of cartoon with darker storylines and characters that they wouldn't dare to ever put in American cartoons. When I'm in the mood for something more light hearted though, I won't hesitate to pop in a dvd of Batman the Animated series, He-Man, X-Men, etc. Whatever though.

The storylines and characters of animes are more drawn out and boring I'll give you that. If I want thought provoking story and adult themes I'll pop in a good movie, I won't put on a cartoon that takes itself too seriously and bores the hell out of me.

Since I can't stand anime, it's always bothered me that Mega Man is like right on the verge there...fighting it's American version with the Japanese one.

I can't stand that overly cutesy version of Mega Man, which should be retitled' Mega Boy that looks like a Girl':

I always loved the Americanized covers more which looked more realistic say like a real guy, they were always so awesome. Even the really bad first one, it's so bad it's good.

:lol Darth Wiley.

Haha ya that just looks wrong.

Honestly, the Japanese artworks look way closer to the actual character in the game. The original Mega Man was always meant to be a light hearted cutesy game for kids. It's also a JAPANESE created game which makes sense that the Japanese art is the official one. In the game the sprite has the huge eyes and had a short chibi look like a kid's anime.

If we should change the way the original Mega Man is, then we should have He-Man changed so he actually chops people up to bits or a TMNT cartoon with the same thing.

The storylines and characters of animes are more drawn out and boring I'll give you that.

A lot of my favorite movies are slower than a lot of my favorite anime movies (although by slower I don't mean I like them less because I'm more of a movie guy myself and I just mean in comparison to anime I've seen) such as Inception, Se7en, Lord of the Rings, etc. with Inception being my favorite movie ever and it's kinda funny to mention it when Metal Gear drags on and on with it's cutscenes when they could easily make a lot of them shorter without losing anything significant for the longer ones. I don't know what anime you've seen that could drag on longer than that, but it sounds awful to me. I guess we should just agree to disagree here.

That's the only thing that bothers me about the MGS series, as it went on the games got worst. They got more hokey and just the over the top stuff and far fetched dialogue made me groan sometimes.

But Mega Man cries for the remake as he was originally meant to be. It would work so much better. To dream of what a game can be, I dare challenge them. We can totally push Mega Man much further than his later failed games, and since they couldn't get it right they went back to the 8-bit formula instead of evolving it. I would love to be at the helm and head a projects that fans would rav about for years to come.

Mega Man is fine as he is right now. There have already been many attempts to branch out with the formula that a reboot isn't necessary. And on a sidenote, I don't want a more grim, mature reboot. Mega Man has kept its familiar look for practically 2 decades and the franchise's huge popularity is attributed to that.

Remember Bomberman: Act Zero? I do not want that to happen to Mega Man.

What? Do you really want that? I don't think anyone wants him to look like the original artwork for the U.S. Mega Man release. It was bad back then and it's still bad now. The only difference is that people think it's ironically funny, as in 'so bad it's good' in a retro way, but it's really just bad.

No one remembers Bomberman: Act Zero, is that even real?

I know that original art on the first box was bad, but they really had no idea what MM was about when doing that art. I don't think anyone will see eye to eye with the darker, more mature mega man. I'm not saying take him out of character I'm saying expound upon and build on that mature thread of humanity and robots going rogue, and Willy and Lights relationship and Mega Man and Protoman...there's so much lore that can be explored.

I'm not saying make things out of character gives him guns, make it really violent and bloody, and put girls with huge knockers in there. Give it the treatment it deserves.

Just imagining those robots re-imagined or new ones that looks more realistic, darker, edgier, and just overall more awesome. The story that can built and draw you in. I guess no one will see what I see in my head. But if it came out everyone here would be nabbing it up. It just cries to be a PSN and XBLA release. It would be like amazing.

I'm all for expanding the Mega Man lore, but I think Capcom can do it while keeping the same style they've used for the last couple decades. That's where we disagree, I guess.

And to answer your first question: Yes, Bomberman: Act Zero was very real. :lol
