Has the Japanese really done much better? The Playarts and UDFs were far from perfect.

At the time they were infinetly better than anything Western.

I feel like western companies only now are hitting their stride with the likes of Mezco and strom collectables.

Even then I still prefer the eastern asthtetic

Yeah but they had even less articulation than the McFarlane figures but we're just as fragile. I would consider them on par with McFarlanes offering especially considering they were like ten years older. Playarts may be the best we have gotten so far but the choice of releases and crappy quality control on top of the asking price still makes them extremely lack luster, don't even get me started on the Figma, Revoltech or Hot Toys. They don't even deserve mention.

Didnt really care that they didnt have articulation at all, theyre rock solid too. I agree about any of the other udfs. The ones i mentioned are great in every aspect other than articulation, they were minis statues i suppose you could say.

Any reason why HT never did more with the MGS licence? Arguably figure wise, they are the best looking ones out there but they only released 3 characters. Snake was great, The Boss had a bit chubbier face then I would of liked and Raiden was just killer! (Shame for elbow issues).

Imagine HT Volgine, Frank Jager, Laughing Octopus, any Mantis, Kaz, a member of Skulls etc. I always hated the Playarts because they are fragile as ****. A single stumble faceplant of a figure usually results in a broken piece or weapon. It got so bad I justbsold off my collection because o was furios coming back home and seeing status on top of each other.

Either way really strange HT didnt cash in on this.

Snake and Boss were just promotional figures, they were announced right after the release of Snake Eater 3D. Raiden announced the same year Konami was releasing PC and Mac versions of the game, so all in all twas just another promo figure too.

Just be glad they did them at all. They only did The Boss because twas most likely part of the promo package.

Easy. Because they didn't sell well, it doesn't help that Snake and the Boss were truly rubbish figures to begin with- minimal articulation, weird space suit aesthetics & poor vinyl didn't helped sales either. They're the only 2 figures in my 50 something collection that I thank the Lord I managed to get rid of. :lol

It's Konami that decide what characters are made when figure companies get the licence.

They (Kojima) made very strange and poor decisions with this.

Every line had a different character.
Revoltech MGS1 and MGSV
FIGMA MGS2
Nendoroid MGS 1, 2, V (one character each)
Hot toys MGS3 and MGRising

The list goes on and on. No consistency what so ever. It's just a mess.. Even though all the legacy versions of Snake always sells out and go up in value in the after marker like Crazy!

Konami clearly doesn't know what to do with the IP and nor do they care- they don't need the revenue from selling computer games, let alone toys based off them. NECA once said that Konami just doesn't care about licencing toys, which explains why it's hard to find figures based off Castlevania, Contra, Silent Hill, Suikoden, erm Frogger etc.

That leads to the obvious that it was Kojima/Shinkawa and their love of toys that got many figures rolling, but both of them are quite guilty of making Snake look all kinds of weird in every iteration of him in toy form.

Oh really? :lol

I like how they act like this series's integrity is somehow above getting bad games.

Yeah I'm surprised how it somewhat backfired. I get it man, you like Kojima. A lot. No need to rally a smear campaign for some stupid zombie game and spoil everyone else who wants to play it. Your master is over there. Go to His Twitter and hope He descends from the heavens and tussle your hair.

The guy is a pampered *****. He went on a rant about low employee pay for the Witcher games guys. All this while the guy still lives with his parents, openly said he quit whatever job he said he has to concentrate on YT and has a Patreon of about $1200 a month. Doesnt even know what an honest days work is and compares sallary to europen standards and wonders why not everybody makes $5K .

@wellcqcaboutthat

Did you play the beta? I went in open minded but its just so confusing, the menues make no sense, took me 15 mins to figure out how to bring back my machette from the inventory. Im sure the story mode explains everything but personally i think its gonna bomb hard. Also I was surprised that all the character avatars, scars, hair types etc were all from MGS5 online. Not a single new face. Thats just lazy. Ill wait till its like $10 just to add to MGS collection.

No, i didnt bother, dont really care about this game. Im just bored of sotc and call of duty and nothing really peaks my interest. Its funny that there hasnt really been any advertising or limited editions or premium packages, just the game. Konami really could not give a damn about this game and its apparent its a cash grab.
