It's funny you mention the way he holds the pistol, that's actually something I've always liked about the series. In any good pistol CQB training they teach you to hold the pistol just like that to prevent someone from grabbing your gun in close-quarters. I've always liked how they get those details mostly right.
Agreed, though his elbows should be tucked into his sides. I served 2 years in the US Marines as a member of the MSPF (Maritime Special Purposes Force, we provided security for Navy SEAL Team 5 and Marine Force Recon) and that is exactly how we were trained to hold and fire pistols. Course, if you have to use a pistol instead of a long gun, something is wrong IMHO.
