Will probably give Metal Gear a break today...

...unless my HT Raiden materialises, in which case brace yourselves for MGR:R fanart for a week.

One thing I didn't mind was how Skull Face's plan turned out to be his own skewed interpretation of The Boss's will. Specifically, by removing the influence of English, he's reverting other cultures to their own original language, literally "leaving the world as it is".

Also I like how MGSV serves to further reinforce that The Boss's will is really just her desire for world peace, in which it was simply what she hoped to achieve by uniting The Philosophers again back in MGS3.

I know people here somehow view that PW marred the idea of The Boss's will, but I'd argue that's more to do with how Kojima made it so Big Boss rejected her ideals in the end (hence the confusion) whereas MGS3 originally inferred that he was just angry at The Philosophers for screwing her over. Coincidentally, I do find it funny how Kojima used that motivation for Strangelove's character instead, which really goes to show how far gone Big Boss really was until his realization in MGS4.

It's like a bad soap opera. And I've seen a lot of bad soap operas.

Not gonna lie though, I'll admit I wasn't a huge fan of making Big Boss reject The Boss in PW only for him to come around it by MGS4 and admit that he'd done goofed. MGS3 painted a simpler image that inferred that he simply went rogue because of The Philosphers screwing over The Boss. It's a very obvious case of less is more.

It's admittedly why I found myself liking Strangelove more after PW, and why I found Big Boss's motivations murkier and hypocritical as things went by.

Let's get this out of the way again, everything regarding The Boss in PW was bastardized. Her will, what she said in MGS 3, her motives, and even how Big Boss was toward her. Everything about that woman was ruined. And it's reasons like that MGS 3 should have been a one off. I will blame Kojima for this however, it's his ****** writing in PW that caused this.

Her will wasn't really ruined though? I get that you took on Solidus' stance way back, but on and on, you barely ever outlined much of your own reasoning for adopting that opinion beyond simply saying "it ruined her".

Thing is, The Boss's will was practically untouched in PW even till now in MGSV. The closest thing to what you're referring to was how Kojima over-indulged in her Jesus-status by basically shoving her into every critical point in history, which says more about him trying too hard as a writer.

More than anything, it's Big Boss that Kojima gave the 180 by making him reject her ideals in PW, which serves to contradict his stance in MGS4 where Outer Heaven was supposed to be his interpretation of her will rather than an answer against it.

Actually no, I have explained at least once last year, so don't go off leading your essays like that. I didn't really adopt Solidus's stance, we just mutually agreed on it, that's all.

Her 'Jesus status' is just background stuff that barely matters in the grand scheme of things, I don't care for that. Everyone for some reason misinterpreted her will, and her motives in PW. From what I recall in MGS3's ending, Big Boss was told everything by Eva's letter. But he still questioned it, he thought she betrayed him, and their country. We also didn't need that AI that was based on her, what kind of bull is that? That just ruined things further. I can buy Zero doing what he did in response, The Patriots, and even Big Boss's initial thoughts, but everything else, no. It's almost like Kojima wanted her to be interpreted as a traitor from that point on without any sort of ulterior motive. There's some plot holes and contradictions with this, and it was just awful.

Ohh that stings. :rotfl :clap

Nothing in PW puts her up as a traitor. She's practically held up on a Jesus pedestal for crying out loud ("siiiiiiing... sing a SOOOOONG"). It's Big Boss who says "**** that" and went off on his own to go against her will.

Big Boss says at the end that he feels she betrayed him based on the AI, and Strangelove's quote states everything about how she feels about The Boss. "Why was a legendary hero forced to betray her country? Why was she targeted for assassination by you, her most beloved disciple? I want the truth... The Boss's last will."

And I didn't disagree with the notion that she is held on a Jesus pedestal, btw.

In PW, he felt betrayed because he realized that she'd gladly trade her soldier's life for the sake of peace.

Big Boss didn't like that and thought she betrayed herself by throwing down her gun. It's as simple as that.

Yeah I don't see how the fact that everybody and their grandmas misunderstood the will of the Boss, which is one of the plot points in the series, ruins the Boss herself...
