Raikov was a joke by Hideo since there was huge fan outrage at playing as Raiden for most of MGS2. He made the character look like Raiden and had him be the gay lover of Colonel Volgin.

It's obvious by Raiden becoming a Cyborg Ninja that they are possibly trying to 'redeem' his coolness with this path. I am curious to see what happened to him since MGS2.

Rock, maybe I'm confused by your wording but when you talk about MGS3 and Hideo "giving us the answer"...you do know that MGS3 is a prequel that takes place even before the original Metal Gear? Raikov is not the same person as Raiden.

I too was confused by this remark.

Yes i know this takes place in the 60`s,what i meant is that since Raidenovitch had the same look as Raiden im sure Hideo gave us a hint that Raiden might be a clone of him,dont you think?

How can we know?Obviously same look and same name as Raiden(codename).

You never know,i think its more to it than Raikov beeing a joke,and made him similar to Raiden,would be an interesting story for Raiden.
Im not saying that i want to know more about Raikov,but the story with Raiden,and i think it has somthing to do with Raikov.

Yeah me too,thats why i was talking about Raikov so much,since i was positive Hideo linked Raidens story to Raikov.

So why did Hideo include Raikov in MGS3 if it has NOTHING to do with raiden?Kind of amateurish by Hideo.

OPS2- You must have guessed the inclusion of Raiden in MGS2 was going to cause a stink? Did you enjoy poking fun at Raikov in MGS3?
Hideo- The masterplan with MGS2 was to take MGS1, destroy everything and rebuild it from the ground up. That was the concept and it was why I introduced Raiden - this pure, white, empty character - instead of Solid Snake. I guess it was like M Night Shymalan's approach with 'The Village'. Raiden was actually quite popular in Japan and Korea, but people in the United States and Europe weren't big fans. That's why I put the mask of Raiden and the character of Raikov into MGS3. So people who like Raiden can wear the mask throughoutthe game, but the people who hate him can beat the hell out of Raikov! At the beginning of MGS3, if you select the dialouge that says, "I like MGS2 very much" then you will start out wearing the Raiden mask. I really wanted European gamers to do that and say "Oh my god, not again..."

Raiden was alright, he grows on you after awhile...but it seems making him the cyborg ninja was a cop-out to make him more bad ass and more appealing to fans who didn't accept him the time around. If you look at very early MGS4 art he even looks as tough he's wearing Gray Fox's ninja suit...so I suppose Hideo had the idea of adding the coolness factor the entire time.

I wouldn't mind a game after MGS4 in which we play as Raiden and learn what happened to him between MGS2 and MGS4.

You can buy a copy from Kuwait. Apparently that's one place from which the game has leaked into gamers' hands already.

Or hell, I could probably drive to Walmart, find the newest-looking employee there, and convince him to sell me a copy of MGS4 before street date.

Hey guys,

I just wanted to let you know that I met Hideo Kojima today!!! It was as awesome as I thought it'd be. He came to Paris 3 years and I couldn't see him so I'm really glad I did today.
Everything had to be settled in less than one hour so I could only tell him a couple of japanese things that I learned the day before just to show him that I admire his work.
Yoji Shinkawa and Yumi Kikuchi were there as well and they were all extremely nice to the fans.

I'm supa hyped for the game now!
