Re: MGBB Custom Works *New Update on Page 4*

Here is my all time favorite:

GITS_Cover2.jpg

It has been more than 3 years I made my first Motoko Kusanagi. Here is a second attempt. This project is based on the 3 Ghost In The Shell TV series: "Stand Alone Complex", "SAC 2nd Gig" and "Solid State Society".

Costume

Ninja Suit (Stand Alone Complex / SAC 2nd Gig)
Motoko wears this suit during operation. It appears in the 1st and 2nd TV series. It is made by Takara. The proportion of the suit is a bit off. It looks very bulky. I wish I have the tailor skill to modify it. The only thing I changed is to reduce the length of the belts so the waist looks slimmer. Finally, I applied some minor weathering.
GITS_Cast03.jpg

Opening Scene Suit (SAC 2nd Gig)
This suit appears at the opening sequence of SAC 2nd Gig. It is a limited version made by Takara.
GITS_Cast04.jpg

Coat (Solid State Society)
This coat and inner tight suit are made by a Japanese customizer. The quality is decent. I only enhanced the collar and the golden shoulder plates. The coat has bendable wire inside the seam to help posing. The sunglasses is made from film negative.
GITS_Cast02.jpg

Assault Suit (Solid State Society)
The vest is custom made (see below). Harness and other accessories are from Medicom modified to fit the larger CG body.
GITS_Cast01.jpg

Headsculpt
The eyes and lips were repainted with acrylics. Photos were taken through out the process to see if the eyes are aligned well. Chalk shading color was applied to make the face features more visible. Hair was trimmed especially at the back as the sockets at the neck are exposed.
Motoko_HS1.jpg

Visor
This visor appears in episode 3 of "SAC 2nd Gig". It was made out of sculpey. First I moulded the sculpey into a shape of the visor. Before it got hard, I put a round object on the surface to make the circle detail. After it became hard I smoothen the surface with grinder and sand paper. Then I used a plastic board cutter to create the groove linings. The screws are gundam accessory parts.
GITS_Visor.jpg

Accessories
The harness and accessories are from the Medicom Motoko figure. Since the Medicom body size is smaller than CG's, I have to replace some of the stripes with longer ones. However, the Medicom vest has no way to fit. I had to make my own from scratch. First, I needed to create a patternmaking out of paper. Then I cut scrap cloth and synthetic leather parts accordingly. The cloth was wrapped around the body with velcro tapes at the back. The leather stripes and other details were fixed on to the vest by instant glue.
The communication device (the ring type thing around the neck) was made from plastic stripes.
GITS_Cast05.jpg

Weapon
SMG - this P90 alike weapon is coming from the Medicom Motoko figure. I replaced the barrel. A mounting rail, torch and aiming scope were added.
Motoko_SMG.jpg

Seburo C26A - this is from Takara. A mounting rail and aiming scope were added. I also added carrying stripes.
Motoko_C26A.jpg

ISIS
This is an old figure I made 3 years back as a rival of Motoko. Here are the details:

My COD figures:

Ghost_Cover5.jpg

Call Of Duty is probably the best series of FPS video games. The latest release, Modern Warfare 2, is my favorite. Excellent game play, story line and character design. Among all the characters, I like "Ghost" the most. This is my take of "Ghost" based on the episode "The Only Easy Day... Was Yesterday" in which Ghost and his Taskforce 141 team members are rescuing hostages at an oil rig.

Wiki about the game: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Here are some reference photos:

At the opening of the episode, Taskforce 141 team is transported to the target oil rig under the sea via SDV launched from Submarine.

This CG is based on the last scene of the episode. Ghost is guarding the helicopter landing platform while the team is taking off for their next mission.

Next mission "Gulag", Taskforce 141 is attacking a Russian gulag to retrieve Captain Price.

The Figure
This is the Hot Toys USSOCOM Navy Seal UDT figure I acquired years ago. At one point I thought about making "Ghost & Soap" but realized this UDT figure costs a fortune now if I need to buy another one so I only made Ghost for now. There was just some simple enhancement work done like stuffing the pockets, trimming the stripes, dry brush weathering, etc. Here is the part break down:
Headsculpt: Unknown maker
Body: Hot Toys
Balaclava: Hand painted
Sunglasses: Customized
Headset: Hot Toys
Suit: Hot Toys, added British flags on arms
Other Gears: Hot Toys
Gloves: Hot Toys customized
MP5K: Medicom customized
M4A1: Hot Toys repainted

Ghost_Cast03.jpg

Ghost_Cast04.jpg

Ghost_Cast05.jpg

Headsculpt
I think this is supposed to be Gerrard. I picked this up as loose part. The quality of this head is quite good. I repainted the eyes and added shading and highlight to the face. The skull pattern on the balaclava was hand painted. I used acrylics diluted by textile medium for fabric painting. (Ops! Ghost's identity has been revealed!)
Ghost_Head.jpg

Weapon Customization
MP5K
This is based on the weapon design in the game. (someone told me that this config only exists in the Airsoft world) I used a Medicom MP5 as the base. The mounting rail was coming from another M4 I cut into shape. The stock end cap was built from scratch. I made 2 versions of silencer and a detachable flash light.
Ghost_Weapon01.jpg

M4A1
Not much customization here. I just painted some portion in sand color and added a silencer. I also did some subtle weathering.
Ghost_Weapon02.jpg

Other Customizations
Sunglasses - cannot find a pair of shades exactly matching what Ghost uses so I decided to make one. Screen and frame are from 2 Hot Toys sunglasses. I used epoxy putty to merge them together and grind to desired shape.
Gloves - the original ones did not have good articulation. I removed the fixed peg with a ball joint. Then wrap the wrist with a sheet of synthetic leather to hide the joint.
Rebreather - removed the original painting, repaint with black, grinder polished to create texture, hand painted the pattern as seen in the game.

Fantastic work! I'm always amazed at how much you put into each figure, and your camera skills are equally impressive as your bashing skills. :panic:

Ross, thanks! There are still a lot to learn and explore in 1/6 world.

Soap_Cover01.jpg

Like the "Ghost" figure I have done before, I custom this "Soap" figure based on the "The Only Easy Day...Was Yesterday" and "Gulag" episode. Those are also my favorite episodes of the game

At the end of the "The Only Easy Day...Was Yesterday" episode, Soap and Ghost are boarding the helicopter for their Gulag mission

The bath room scene - the best one in the game. I think the idea is coming from the movie "The Rock".

The Figure

Head: Loading Toys (repainted)
Body: Hot Toys
Wet Suit: Hot Toys
Pants: Hot Toys
Other Gear: Hot Toys
Boots: ACI Toys
M14: ACE (repainted)
MP5K: Medicom (customized)
Soap_Cast01.jpg

Soap_Cast02.jpg

Soap_Cast03.jpg

Head Enhancement
To enhance this head further to match with "Soap", these were what I did to it:
1) repainting the eyes to give more serious-looking eye contact
2) creating the scar on his left eye
3) sculpting the ear communication device
4) painting the face camo
5) adding shades to enhance face features
Soap_WIP03.jpg

M14 EBR
Not much modification here. I just swapped the aiming scope and repainted with tiger stripes snow camo. This is purely based on my imagination.

WIP
Here are some WIP pics showing various stages while the Soap figure was built

Gulag Guard
I also made this simple figure for making the CG. The white overcoat is DML WWII German. The pants are Australian SAS

Re: MGBB Custom Works *COD Update on Page 6*

Do you ever use an airbrush or is everything done with paintbrush? I'd love to see pics of your painting area. :monkey3

Re: MGBB Custom Works *COD Update on Page 6*

There is it! Soap - the best figure you've ever done for me mate, still love looking at it to this day.
