Schumacher wasn't a bad filmmaker going into his Batman years, but it just goes to show that if you don't have much respect for a given property, you shouldn't get involved. The return to 60's era camp with more homoerotic overtones was not what the franchise needed.
As for B&R, if the producers were as hell bent on turning the movie into an extended toy commercial as he himself admitted, he should have bailed. Guess he wanted that money more than his integrity.
