TMNT Creator Says New Script Will Be Closer To Source Material:
Kevin Eastman created the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with Peter Laird as a comic book that was published on May 5th 1984. Now that the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie under director Jonathan Liebesman has been moved to May 2014, we’re quickly approaching the Turtles 30th anniversary year with a new live-action adventure in the mix.
The new film got pushed back so Liebsman can better conceptualize the action sequences while scribes Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec furiously re-work the script, now infamous because of Michael Bay’s assertion the Turtles would be re-imagined as aliens.
IDW has been re-launching it’s Turtles line in a big way, and Kevin Eastman announced he’ll be writing and drawing a 48-page Annual issue for his creations.
Talking to CBR about the state of the Turtles, he had some very encouraging things to say for those of us that still have a Teenage Alien Turtles taste in our mouths:
“I talked to [producer] Scott Mednick yesterday, and he’s seen the most recent 50 [script] pages and said it’s as good as the last version — they’ve really knocked it out of the park,” Eastman said. “I’ve seen a chunk of it, and it’s going to be a great movie, despite what everybody thinks.”
[...]
Eastman is busy working closely with Liebesman, Mednick and writers Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec. “Doing sketches, drawings and character designs, bouncing stuff around with the writers, talking with the director and the producers — I’m actively involved…When you see what Ciro’s done with the TV series, and obviously what the fans have seen us do with the IDW series, what they’re doing with the movie is creating its own story, but it has to be true to the source material or we’ll get ____ing murdered. To be blunt.”
Bluntness appreciated, Mr. Eastman.
