Shocking, I haven't read anything from him in a while, but he was probably my favourite author back in high school. I've read Jurassic Park, Lost World, Sphere, Congo, Andromeda Strain and Eaters of the Dead, all great reads. He will be missed.

the man who wrote the Jurassic Park book and the man who did the special effects for the movie have both died this year. Sad news.
R.I.P .

Very unexpected news.

JP one of my favorite novels of all time. I've read it multiple times.

Oh no...That sucks...

Jurassic Park came on in my itunes library just as I read this...that's a terrible loss, it's one of my favourite stories ever...

Oh my god! I just got back from working today and saw this news. I am totally in shock and beyond words. He's my favorite modern author and Jurassic Park truly was a milestone in my life (both book and movie)
RIP Mr. Crichton, you will sorely be missed. :monkey2:monkey2

Wow, really sucks to hear this!! His first book I read was Andromeda Strain and I've read almost everything since til Prey & Airframe. Finished them and kinda forgot about him. Sucks so bad to hear. Will have to look up his recent books and buy some!!

R.I.P. Michael Crichton!!

such a sad loss... PREY was such a good book of his, as was JP and so many others...
although he wasnt a litery masterpiece, no other author had such a good grasp of adventure and action and i had so much fun reading his novels

RIP

I've been looking for this topic, I assumed someone would have picked up on it...

It is a time of inexplicable loss, not just for me, nor JP fans, nor sci-fi fans, but literary enthusiasts and innovators alike. My all-time favorite author, his works have shaped my life since my youth, and defined the way in which the modern world has come to perceive dinosaurs. Every year I read Jurassic Park and The Lost World, and every year I find new details that were not perceived previously. The richness in his characters, (human and non-human alike), his plots, and his science can be appreciated by anyone who opens one of his books and finds his genuis laid bare. To lose Michael Crichton so soon on the heels of the death of Peter Benchley... bad things most assuredly do come in twos. My two favorite authors may no longer live on this earth, but their tales and their influence will live forever.

This year has been a tough one for JP fans. Ironically, our 15th Anniversary has been marked by the deaths of Stan Winston, and now Michael Crichton.

Long live the King!

Since I caused some confusion with this post I made a new thread about the book so if y'all will be so kind as to follow the link and let this thread fall away so as not to confuse others. Sorry for the confusion.

Pre-Edit post:
Did y'all know that a complete manuscript was discovered after his death? The book is coming out in November. It's called Pirate Latitudes. I just discovered it on Amazon. Here's the link. I'm excited.

He died November 4, 2008. WTF!? Why not make a new thread with this news as opposed to re-upping his RIP thread from last year?

A. It didn't seem like big enough news to warrant its own thread. B. I didn't realize it was that long ago. C. What the hell difference does it make?
