I dunno, I'm in England and I remember them when I was a kid. I read a couple, green eggs and ham, the cat in the hat, the fox with no socks (I think?) and loved the original grinch cartoon. I imagine it was probably much bigger in America though.

I think those books are a very american thing.
Never even *heard* of them till Jim Carrey came along.
Maybe it's different now, but when i was growing up, those books were not around.
