Wow, that is just absolutely friggin' insane how great this is coming out. That chalice too is just perfect. Every bit as good as if Sideshow had actually gone ahead and done that promised Mola Ram from five years ago (for the record, they repeatedly teased that they were going to do not just Mola but also a shorty and mine cart.

Still can't believe Spenser ended up doing this project.
And major kudos to Wor-gar for getting this moving, and moving with such top-drawer talent.
What an amazing likeness on a character that's a bit tricky to capture.
The only things I'd point out is agreement with davejames about the upper lip "points" (and "indent" between upper lip and nose) being too wide. Also the headpaint stripe doesn't seem to come down the forehead far enough, but it's possible this painted line varies a bit in the movie - makes sense it would, so maybe Spenser used a different scene ref pic to the one below. I haven't checked the movie to see.
I assume it's something Mola would have had repainted every day, so maybe the movie make-up people varied it scene by scene with that in mind. Either way, I think having it further down like in this ref pic looks a bit cooler, with the black line almost emphasizing his frown/menace more.

That said, as a reminder, this is not a traditional custom project where people have to put down deposits and then have a lot of input on the final outfit or sculpt -- this is more of a kit project where you simply buy the items offered, if you like them, to put together your own Mola Ram. I do not know if Spenser is planning to make adjustments. But I will ask.

ok, got it. The paint issue is obviously something that's easily dealt with as the heads are painted, and the sculpt issue with the upper lip might be partly camera lens distortion anyway (ie making the nose, lips and chin seem more pronounced/wider than they really are.)
It's always hard posting ref pics next to headsculpts because in order to match the lens of the 1:1 ref pic you really need to photograph headsculpts with as long a lens as possible to minimize distortion (so pretty far away,) but doing that requires a lot of light and makes getting sharp focus (and minimizing graininess) really tricky. So we often end up with nice sharp pics that have either been taken with a macro lens or smartphone lens/wide angle lens up-close, both of which tend to distort somewhat vs ref pics of actors.
Agreed. Also, when you're looking in hand at a head that's the size of your thumb, there's a lot of minute inaccuracies that just disappear (like paint instead of hairy eyebrows, etc).

Just about to say that before reading all the post. The sculpt looks really good, skin tone is pretty on point. This will be a great project. What makes me most happy is how old school we are doing this.

Oh man, finally popping back into this thread and Wow! Spenser knocked it out with that sculpt and paint. Really looking forward to how this continues to shape up. Thanks for getting the ball rolling on this Wor-Gar!

Well, he does get away.
I guess BB-8 didn't appreciate being called a "ball" in TFA.
Spoke to the tailor today. He's working on the prototype while he hunts down a good material. Currently he's using a black woven material that looks like a t-shirt weave cotton. It likely hangs well but I hope he can find a material that appears closer to Mola's outfit in the film -- it has a distressed silk look. Previously he used a gauze-type material that is very wrinkled but that still might be the best choice. That sample is posted on the first page.

Yeah looking at it again the black does have a pretty rough texture, while the red is just a smooth rayon kind of fabric. I can see why it might be tricky finding something with that look, but which still drapes well.
