Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

Once the clock ticks down on buyer protection I am sure that is what many people will do.

And that's the point people start to complain how they missed the deadline. I know people ordered directly from M8 because it wasn't up at any other site. I don't think there is any benefit ordering from M8 other than the first 1000 are numbered. You probably won't lose your money from M8, but why take that chance when you don't have to. What do I know, there are collectors here who's money seems to grow out of their ass. I always see lesson learned comments after money gets taken.

Reminds me of the scene from Tommy Boy about the taking a dump in a box and marking it guaranteed.

In this day and age, a numbered box doesn't mean anything. Especially from a company that has a severe lack of transparency/trust.

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

What have they lied about? They missed the deadline and are tossing additional accessories in. To me that means they are trying to make good on delays.

I personally think these things won't ship for months. If there is anything they are guilty of, it is of being too optimistic.

Yeah, I think that's the only real issue I have so far--they are making ridiculous promises, without any real reason to expect that they can be met. And on top of that, they are taking direct payments through their site, which coupled with these promises can be really misleading to potential collectors who are used to dealing with, say, a Hot Toys or Sideshow. In the case of those companies, dates may be off, but usually not by too much, and the most you're usually out is an NRD. Lakhota mentioned custom figures, and this has a lot of parallels to that process, except of course that these are licensed and on a much larger scale (supposedly). But in the custom world, buyers have to learn to take care, because sometimes custom entrepreneurs get in way over their heads and end up leaving folks holding the bag. A current one that seems to be doing that is Origami, but we've seen many examples in the past, even high profile ones like Serang.

It's indeed shady to be blunt. Mostly because they are taking direct payments based off no photos. For months... seriously who does that?

Kim's oversized Proto that is hand painted is not a photo... that's her work. They are using her work to fund the rest of the project. Mark my words they used the preorder money for that.

I'll send them my money before the in hand pics are there. If and only if the prototype looks great. Even then it's a gamble who knows what the end result will look like?

But before? Are you kidding me? Crazy...

You guys are absolutely correct. To me, it's like the kid down the street who keeps making up stories, and each time they get more far fetched. You don't have to keep going by his house, or even listen to him, but you do. Then you get upset because you know the kid is not being honest and thinks you aren't smart enough to tell the difference. So you spend your time running around complaining to everyone about this kid.

You, the buyer are the one in control here. You don't have to send them any money until you are satisfied with the final product, you can preorder through BBTS and be protected, or if you paid via PayPal directly to them, you are protected for 180 days and can be reimbursed today if you wish. People lie, exaggerate, stretch the truth, make promises that they know they cannot fulfill, lead people on, find creative ways to make money, etc. Sometimes you have to be willing to walk away like when buying a new car. I don't think Molecule took into account how smart many of the collectors on this site are, that we have seen this song and dance before. Let's just accept the fact that they are not going to deliver on their promises as originally stated. They are on their own timeline. If and when they are ready to deliver a product, I'm sure everyone will be excited and not hold all this animosity against them. For whatever reason, they have chose to do business this way, not the best of choices, but still their choice. You are also choosing to be a part of it.

When I say you, I mean people in general, not anyone here specifically.

At least it's something physical, I guess. Still looks like they are in the very early developmental stage.

Which makes any sort of promise of the figure being released in August untrue... and really a conservative estimate (based on how long most figures take) would be at least 6 months after the prototype is finished and approved. Lest we forget, this is a licensed figure which means any changes being made now (I believe) will need to be approved.

They would do themselves a lot of good to just come out with a date for when they expect the prototype to be done and then a realistic estimate of when the production figures would be completed afterward. This pushing back the date a month at a time while still adding complicated accessories is going to push away even a loyal customer.

This company is classic.

This is what happens when your CEO is a marketing whiz with nearly 10 companies under his belt in the last 10 years. Wonder what he'll do next?

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

Functional prototype will be shown at SDCC 2021.

If it takes a year it will only be the same as your average Hot Toys.
I dont see what the fuss is all about, even if they take longer than they say, they will still be quicker than Chans lot.

What are your thoughts on how they're handling the Lennon figure?

I was not following this thread for a month or so, and it is where it was: pre-production pics, and a month till the release :rotfl
They said there will be more proper photos, well I do not see them. And how are they going to ship it in a month or so, if the are still doing "Ongoing refinements", which should mean figures are not yet produces at the factory. And if you only add a guitar, you basically have a figure ready and produced, just leave a space in the box for a guitar, and produce it along the way. Which means, that they never planned to produce figure in June, they are still adjusting it in July, so...
They have a lot of exciting licences, I like how they talk about their vision, but make business proper - present a prototype (you could always adjust things along the production), people should know what they are buying, it is not a puzzle game.:slap

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

I'm just going to hold out for the super duper mega double deluxe version with a guitar, full band of instruments, Paul McCartney, a bonus Yoko Ono with 5 extra outfits and a Mark III exo-skeleton case for all three figures. But the special edition Yoko version that magnetically repels John and Paul away from each other when you stand her between them.
