I'm fine with the previous version, but this does look pretty swell!
I missed out on the original and have been contemplating just going for the NECA version to have my favorite Universal monster in figure form.

As cool as the all-rubber seamless suit is, the original figure looked pretty good and you never had to worry about the material splitting or tearing or holding a pose long-term. This is $100 more than the first release with some good extras, some new pros, and some new cons.

I’m undecided, and probably won’t rush on that “timed exclusive” FOMO. But I’m at least glad Gill-Man has been getting lots of love recently.

I’m new to the classic horror 1/6 genre so I placed an order to have the character represented in my collection. KP’s Frankenstein was my first horror purchase. I just hope this figure pairs well with Frankenstein and KP’s future figures. This character isn’t one of my absolute favorites and doesn’t seem to be high up on KP’s list, but the price was fairly decent so this release was perfect for me.

Have some FOMO, tempted to get this but I think I’m going to mainly stick with Frankenstein and Dracula as my classic horror representation.

Still unsure about this one. I have the previous Mondo Creature, but I'll probably end up selling it regardless of whether or not I get this one.
The Creature has always been a character that I wouldn't mind the sculptor taking a bit of artistic license on. I love the original design for what it is, but it still always looked like a man in a suit. I'd love a more realistic, detailed rendition. Especially around the face. It always feels a bit shallow and mask-like.

If anything, I think I'll wait for the standard edition. I don't need the base and if it doesn't come with the third head sculpt, that's alright too.

There is going to be a standard edition, right?..... right???

The old stylized Mezco Creature is really cool too. I wish they carried on with those. I've got the Creature, Frankenstein, and Mummy, but I think that was as far as they got

I see what you mean about taking the base design and pushing it just a bit further into more monstrous and inhuman features. And I happen to agree. I would love a more updated Gill-Man if they ever remade the classic, leaning more heavily into a more ferociously proportioned look.

Looking at the listing, I'm starting to think this whole figure is a timed exclusive with no regular version being available later. Usually Mondo releases have a picture with outlines of what specifically is exclusive, no picture of that is included in the listing.
The listing says silicon rubber as a material used in the figure. The exterior skin might be similar to the medical silicon Hono uses on their Marvel figures, This might be a more resilient than other rubber body figures. I'm tempted because I love the Creature design and this looks fantastic but, the price due soo soon, even with a payment plan option, makes it extremely difficult to place an order.

This Creature is a masterpiece. The idea of paying for it all up front, while I have the money, is far better than KP's downpayment plan for their figures. The order is almost certain to "complete" with a balance due when I don't have the money. If I am gonna order this caca, I would rather have the option to just pay for it all up front before I come to my senses, lol. Kind of like doing something when you're sleep deprived or under the influence of something. Then just go "Oh well, it's already a done deal",lol.

As for changing the Creature's design in any way shape or form: I wholeheartedly disagree. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Millicent Patrick's design was way ahead of it's time, and stands toe to toe with Alien or Predator. Just like Jack Pierce's Monster designs and make up. It's why they are iconic, and have stood the test of time.

I’m definitely tempted, but that bloody “rubber” overlay is giving me serious pause; these things never seem to hold up - regardless of whether you pose them dynamically or not.
:gah:

It's not so much that I want them to change the overall design, I'd just like the sculpt to be more realistic. Look at that closeup shot of him coming out of the water. It just looks so flat. I'd appreciate a few more detail passes and more depth to the overall forms. I'd like the eye socket to be deeper and in general it not having to conform to the limitations of not killing the guy wearing it underwater.

But hey, to each his own. I understand the desire to have a 100% faithful recreation of whats on screen

When I saw this film as a child, and my mother told me there was a man in a suit doing the underwater swimming, I didn't believe her.

How could someone be bogged down with a monster suit? and swim so fluidly? Where was his scuba tank? To me: he was real. A real pre historic monster. He had to be. That was a testament to Ricou Browning's athletic ability to be sure.

I think we are spoiled with modern effects, CGI, and the like; so we forget just how difficult, and what an achievement, Creechie actually was. I think this booger looks great, and can only hope the finished product looks this nice. That base (an homage to the Aurora Kit of 1963) is just icing on the cake.
