Re: Witch-king / Lord of the Nazgul PF! Order NOW through the banner!.

I think you guys may be right. There have been a few pics with different angles of the crown so it seems logical that it can be moved and adjusted on the head. If so thats cool.

Re: Witch-king / Lord of the Nazgul PF! Order NOW through the banner!.

Lurtz base is 6cm which should be the same as the one on this making the sculpt around 62.5cm or 24.6 inches.

Looking forward to this. Still think the pose is flawed, and hiding the flail behind the figure is dumb. Will definitely be a custom for me when it arrives.

Woo, how you gonna custom this one?

Re: Witch-king / Lord of the Nazgul PF! Order NOW through the banner!.

I love seeing these Hi-Res shots, and the armor detail looks really nicely sculpted and painted, and the robes are decently natty and torn for a mass-produced item. The Gandalf PF has some similar weathering and looks really nice. I am not digging the fabric behind the eye slots, but I am hoping that with a tweezer, I can pull that away.

Re: Witch-king / Lord of the Nazgul PF! Order NOW through the banner!.

Dang, still getting this, but if they got the pose right it would have been incredible. I wonder if they put the sword and mace down like that to reduce the size for shipping or something. Then again they are removable parts so it should not make a difference.

Re: Witch-king / Lord of the Nazgul PF! Order NOW through the banner!.

Fuzz,

Since most characters have the sword hand detached for shipping and it affixed by a magnet, I am wondering if it might be possiblle to just select a different angle and grind down the post a little to fit the hand so that the sword faces away from his body, rather than across the chest...possible?

Hmm that does sound interesting, but since his arm is already angled down all you can do is play with the wrist angles. The sword facing away from his body in this pose may look even more awkward tho'. I'll see if I can PS something when I have the time. you may be on to something there.

Well without having the statue in hand I plan on shifting the feet so they are front on and square with the name plate, cutting it across the hips and making the torso level and not tilted at the shoulders as well as having the body in line with the legs and not twisted. Cutting the arms and turning them for a repose like the picture. Not sure how the helm is going to be attached yet. If it is a seperate piece then that is great.

Cool looking piece, I've always regretted not getting the Weta one...maybe someday...

damn, thats a huge project. If it was me, i would prolly just cut him in the torso and turn him so his leg doesnt look so awkward, and i would re position his sword arm a little bit, but that would be it for me. The flail isnt attached to the base, so that just moves around where desired.

Re: Witch-king / Lord of the Nazgul PF! Order NOW through the banner!.

I am hoping the flail isn't attached! I don't think it is such a big custom really, everything I cut will be covered up with cloth, I just need to resculpt the base where I move the foot pegs and hopefully the legs aren't all Elaine Benis under the cloth

Re: Witch-king / Lord of the Nazgul PF! Order NOW through the banner!.

Wow, the pose is just so bad... these production pics don't help any. Nothing has changed since the pics first came out.

The head looks awkward, the leg sticking out does as well, can't even tell with certainty if it's the R or L leg... the sword sticking so close to the chest, what a timid Morgul Lord! Also wondering if the chain is too long or the Weta piece's was too short?

And for anybody judging the piece by the "production pics", you must not have been around very long. The pieces shipping out will invariably have less detail and stressing of cloth. Morica Orc PF anyone?!

Gandalf White PF pose ruined it for me, and the drawn sword is a must if you get that thing anyway. The "flaming sword" on the exclusive looks bad, not to mention not "film-accurate" (pose or situational). For an exclusive I would have added an armored leg that had an elven dagger implanted in it, at least that would have the pose make more sense!

Beren

P.S. Gandalf Grey PF arriving today! Yay! Non-Exclusive. My third LOTR PF (Strider Excl and Lurtz Excl). I'll also get Legolas (non-excl). If they bring out further decent Fellowship members, I'll get Frodo at some point.

So let's see if I have this straight......you claim that people who judge this piece based on the "production pics" haven't "been around very long".....so tell us again what you're using to form your judgement? :monkey3

Personally, I have been around long enough....long enough to know that SS's prod. pic's rarely, if ever, do justice to the final product. :wink1:

As for the Moria Orc PF, yes the fabric on the final product looked nothing like that of the prototype....that's because SS completely changed the material [pleather instead of leather] and colour...and I highly doubt SS will ever try a stunt like that again.

1) I base my assertion on that I see a cycle of people seeing "prototype" pics, get excited, then get the item in hand that has a LOT less love and detail given to it than the one in pics and then get upset. Then see a new item, rinse and repeat. People are a forgetful lot.

2) I've apparently been around longer :nana: even if I tend to lurk more :lol

3) You challenge my hypothesis yet validate it in your last sentence. :rotfl Will never try "that stunt" again? I'll refer to Strider 12" (to me the most glaring), Frodo PF as further examples (paint applications).

In any case, EVEN IF the ML PF has the same level of distressing (and quality of it) that the prod pics have, it doesn't change the fact that the pose and layering of fabrics seem odd, the exclusive doesn't work for me and I've been burnt by Sideshow before so I take pics with a grain of salt now. Especially ones that show distressing of fabrics/mixed media. I'll see this thing in person at some point, and other members of this forum will have it in hand soon, so we'll see.

The item that is being photographed OFTEN gets more love than the ones produced on assembly line in China. This is my statement.:lecture

Ignore at your own peril.

Re: Witch-king / Lord of the Nazgul PF! Order NOW through the banner!.

Beren,

The pose is a little wonky, but I think within the constraints of the base/shipping proportions that make sense for the Premium Format line. The fabric looks pretty distressed for a mass-produced item, and the paint/sculpt on the armor bits/sword look really nice.

It's totally a matter of opinion I guess, and we can agree to disagree, but I am looking forward to getting the Morgul Lord PF. I have had plenty of issues with Sideshow in the past, so I am not a fanboy in that regard. Maybe I am too much of a LOTR fanboy though, and that might be my downfall!
