I see nothing wrong with actors doing movies for just the money. But Depp seems to have really bad taste in scripts, apparently! Or at least find a blockbuster director that will ensure a hit, regardless of a crappy script.

I actually think Depp is not selling out enough, so he's looking for scripts that have a little oddness to them. Then they end up flopping.

Cruise has managed to find some decent scripts and aligned himself with strong directors in his post-couch-jumping career. And even though his last few movies haven't been "hits", they are still great movies that end up finding a bit more traction in the home video market. He may not be the box office draw he once was, but at least he's made some highly entertaining action movies.

Depp has made some real snoozers and simply lucked out with POTC!

With regard to Mordecai, I had to look it up to find out what the movie was based on. I mean, it looked like a cheap knock off of the Pink Panther and Inspector Cluseau. I was surprised to find there is a successful series of books about Mordecai. What's really strange is that this movie looks like total family fare with all the goofy, silly physical humor. But it's rated R! They should have just gone for a PG rating and marketed it to kids.
