Picked up a DS Battle: Los Angeles movie poster off eBay...should have it in a week. :D

I thought about that one, but I don't like the poster

I've been going a bit wack on the older 80's posters the last few weeks. Picked up a lot of cheaper ones due to the artwork, especially if they are Struzen or Amsel.

Only new ones I've grabbed are the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (okay, not super new, but I've been trying to get all three for around $20 a pop and now I just need one more...), Rango (already had the teaser version with just Rango in the hawaiin shirt, but the regular version with the other characters behind him was pretty cool too, and cheap right now), and Bad Teacher. Hey, it was cheap. Oh, and I grabbed the second Hannah too, for the same reason as Rango - I like the first image, but the second (with more of her face) turned out better.

Just ordered the Thor movie poster. In a couple months I'm going to order the lightboxes that were posted a few pages back. I went to Michael's since they're having a 50% sale for custom frames. Lol....after the discount the frame for one poster is still $400 something dollars.

WOW that seems like a rip off. I have a more local place that is much cheaper and has great quality.

Yeah that's why I scratched my head and walked out. I was just going with a base black frame, red matte (to match Cap's shield), and the UV protection glass. I priced it with a couple different configurations and the price didn't really shift that much with the changes.

I honestly like the older posters better they just seem to have more artwork/style, so many of todays posters all look the same.

It's funny studios used to send multiple copies to theaters never worrying about them after the movie stopped showing, now they really limit what theaters get and in some cases ask for the posters back ( looking at you lucas films). I think studios have gotten keen to the fact that people will actually buy posters for money and plan accordingly now to that fact.

Have you guys never tried www.americanframe.com ?

When you say custom do you mean matte ?

Cause know for custom mattes it's easier to do in a store, But in terms of size and standard cut mattes the site works pretty darn well.

Yea custom matte and custom sized frame. For example I had three mini Tom Whalen prints framed together so I had to get the matte custom cut and the frame custom made because of the weird size.

Mine wasn't really custom. I just wanted a red matte that matched the red in Captain America's suit and shield. The girl told me it was so expensive because of the size. So with that in mind I might jus stick with an online site that specializes in movie poster sizes.

For what it's worth, next week all custom framing will be 65% off. I'm dropping off a few things then.

My greatest framing oddessey (sp?) started last year, when I finished the bar in my basement and it was time to put up my two most prized prints.

I have a friend named Dylan Cole. He's a digital matte painter - some thing he's THE digital matte painter these days. His most recent work was Avatar (he designed the Tree of Life, and is the second person they interview after James Cameron on one of the making of specials) as well as Alice in Wonderland, where he did a ton of work including the castle. He's worked on Riddick, Superman, I Robot, etc. etc. etc.

Anyway, his very first film out of school was the Lord of the Rings trilogy. He moved to New Zealand to work on the project the entire time, and did some amazing work. As a present to me, about 5 years ago he printed out two of his digital paintings from the films - one of a long shot of Rivendell, and one of a long shot of the Eye of Mordor, with surrounding mountains. He printed them up at my requested size, 3x5. Yep, 3 foot by 5 foot. And he signed both of them too, which he found deeply amusing at the time.

Well, this last year I finally finished my bar where they were to hang, and decided to get them framed. Oh...my...God. I tried every local framing place I could find, from the Michael's like stores to the mom and pop establishments. Nobody would even consider framing them with a matte. I wanted a 3 1/2" matte all around, and they don't make regular matte material that large. Nobody wanted to get creative either, so I was on my own.

I did buy the plexiglass at a local glass shop, and I ordered the framing material online. I used a dense foam material for the backing, and ended up using vinyl that I cut for the matte material. I think they turned out pretty nice, but even doing all that work myself they cost me $300 each to frame. They're huge, but they look great together on the wall. I'll see if I can snap a photo to share.

I asked him recently if I could snag a print from Alice and one from Avatar too - maybe I'll get a nice Christmas present :)
