Lol. I totally get it.
I started a custom Jedi a while back using a TTM headsculpt(Easy to obtain), and my backstory was that he was just newly promoted to knight and had only just left Coruscant on a Covert Op with a handful of clones when Order 66 came down. He was injured dealing with his clones but survived. My idea was to make three versions of him. The battle damaged post Order-66 version with serious facial damage, a version with the scarring healing with longer hair and different clothing from maybe a year afterwards(Like he has gone into hiding on outer rim planets), and a "five years later" version with a far different look and longer hair still.
I am still keeping my eyes peeled for second stage and third stage clothing. I want a real cowboy look to his later looks, along with twin blaster holsters like he is trying to *not* look like a Jedi in hiding, and perhaps he's trying to pass as a bounty hunter. I only ever got the first version and second version face done. Like i say, i am keeping my eyes open for a suitable costume for the later looks.
I find that inventing a backstory helps to while away the time spent making customs!

The hands are Bith hand casts , though you wouldn't think it, they are really good generic alien hands
Username , I agree with what you are saying about back stories, did a couple of Clones a while back , Ratt and Fusewire, and it really helped with the direction I ended up heading in
As for jedi Plans , I'm working on some female jedi at the moment but have no plans for male jedi , you never know though as have plenty of jedi robes
May well work on some sith next, have some basics put together but will need alot of planning before they are anywhere near ready

Started this custom ages ago and managed to get him mocked up today.
Ended up recasting most of the parts and making the Pants from scratch.
The Jacket is a Hasbro Han Solo one as is the snowtrooper backpack and there's a couple of sideshow Snowtrooper parts in ther too..
It has a carry handle but also thinking of having it mount under his back armour.
Bigest issue I have is the forearm gauntlets which are supposed to be Snowtrooper ones, so I think I'll have to recast those too unless there is someone out there that has a spare set ( I know
)
