It's all about the hot toys tonight...literally, since both reviews cover Hot Toys releases. I'm looking at their new Captain America figure - he's not quite the outstanding specimen that the Reeve Superman is, but he's a decent release with some real pluses.

Jeff Parker is checking in with a look at a figure that has been out for awhile - Barney Ross of the Expendables. You can find all the reviews at the usual:

Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend!

Great review, as usual. Pardon my ignorance, I haven't followed the HT Cap thread much at all -- did they actually change the final head sculpt from what was shown in the proto pics?

I agree, I don't see Evans in there at all.

I really love the pictures that accompany your review.

One question, is there a permanent rub/mark on the 'A' of Caps helmet or was it just residue or dust that can be wiped off? I'm refering to your pic following the box art.

Thanks!

Great review. I think you can fix the holster with two small magnets like the HT Indiana Jones holster and bag came with.

Yep, rub mark. It's subtle enough on mine that I didn't even see it til the photos, but that also might be because it just looked like realistc wear on the uniform at first glance. I don't plan on trying to rub it out - too much chance for further damage.

For the holster, I think I can glue the post back in the hole, and get it to stay well enough to hold the flap shut. I don't plan on having him hold the pistol anyway, so keeping it in the holster will work fine.

Great review, but it's disappointing to hear about the neck and wrist problems.

You also mentioned that you should be careful with posing the arms and that you should follow the directions lest you damage them. What's the deal with that?

And is this the muscle body or isn't it?

I think it's the muscle body - but the uniform is much too tightly fit for me to mess around with and remove. The instructions remind you that the shoulders only go up about 65% or so - I had trouble even getting them that high, and didn't want to force it.

Thanks, Michael. So if it's the muscle body, how does the neck keep popping off the torso? Isn't it permanently connected? Or does the joint come undone and is just held in place by the rubber outer sheathing of the neck?

It's a TT with muscle arms. No sculpted neck. there's photos of the body in the Captian America thread.

I agree, Toylion. I HATE the lack of elbow (and apparently shoulder) articulation in the muscle body! HATE IT! :cuss

They should not have used the muscle arms on Cap, especially since his arms are fully covered! I mean, WTF?

Yes, the neck is a separate peice from the body, so it pops right off the ball joint inside the torso. The fit isn't tight on mine at all, so everytime I pose it, it comes loose. Like I said in the review, not a deal breaker but more annoying than it should be.
