I really don't get your confusion Crows. Couldn't your question also be put to 1/6 collectors who have a hard on for Iron Man? Or Terminator? Or Batman? Or Bruce Lee? There are plenty of collectors who focus on just the one line, I don't see why MLP-only collectors should be seen any differently.

yeah but Iron Man collectors still watch the Batman movies. And might buy some batman stuff. Even if someone focuses on one superhero. That's not the same as obsessing over that one particular movie. Besides we have Avengers which made people buy the other characters as well. The difference here is that sometimes MLP obsess over the show and they don't collect anything else. Which makes me wonder why. Since Carebears is almost the same thing as MLP. Like, you would think that MLP would find Carebears awesome too no?

MLP has a pretty sophisticated narrative from my watching of it. I haven't watched the Care Bears recently, so they may have changed in recent years - but I don't recall the narrative having anywhere near the depth of MLP.

You have seriously watched both MLP and CB and concluded that they're comparable storywise?

carebears was just an example. It might not be as Amazing and groundbreaking as MLP, but my curiosity stands.
What is it about MLP that makes guys obsess over it, while they don't really care about any other cute cartoons made for girls out there. I was just using that as an example.

And you mention the guys that focus on Iron man or Batman only toys. But those guys still like other super heroes. They might like Spiderman or Fantastic 4 or something. With bronies sometimes that's all they care about as far as cartoons go. Or a guy that cares for Batman but doesn't care about superheroes in general Just Batman, doesn't watch anything else... Just made me wonder why.
that's like a Yugioh fan that doesn't care for anime but goes crazy for Yugioh only. It would make me wonder why as well, since there are other anime shows out there that are as good.

I think the degree of obsession you're talking about represents a sliver of the adult fanbase.

I'm a Star Trek fan but I'm not hard core enough by a long shot to bother learning freaking Klingon. But some do. I'm a LoTR fan, but not enough to bother learning Elvish or reading The Silmarillion. But some do.

I could go on. MLP obviously resonates really strongly with some folks. I'm only a casual watcher, but I appreciate the storytelling above all else. Quality animation, tight scripting and storytelling, and positive themes in an animation is hard to come by.

Why some obsess so hard over it I can't say, but I couldn't say why some obsess over just about anything.

I watched it once, thought it was pretty funny. I'd continue to watch it but I just don't have enough time to sit down and watch TV beyond my current DVR list.

I confess that I only watch MLP because my oldest daughter is so into it. I watch everything she watches to make sure it's suitable. But the minute I get my own spare time it's all AMC, Showtime, HBO etc.

But I'll run it past her. If it gets her seal of approval it'll be on the playlist

Hopefully she'll love it. It's got everything for everyone. And as an adult, you'll appreciate it even more. It's a surprisingly mature cartoon. But not in an inappropriate way, but in the way it's told.

Instead of the sister and brother being at odds all the time and hating each other, they actually really love each other, and would do anything for each other. It's very unique, and makes some of the moments in the show actually powerful.

And it's not just me saying this, The AV club praises the show up and down.
