How about you get rid of the straps all together ..cut the top of the patch like i said before..and apply the patch with a piece of double sided sticky tape or something that isn't permanent and wont damage the figure.

I've would think that there are countless non-abrasize/non-permanent adhesives you can use on figures. some that come to mind would be hair gel or a simple glue stick maybe?
