I have the Mumak of Harad Statue, which arrived today #395. It was surprisingly light and small (SSW web site lists it at only 10 lbs.); heck the base weighs more.

The #1 quality of this piece is the detailing and paint job. The Howdah (the basket thing that carries the Haradrim Archers) is one of the most awesome accessories SSW has made so far. Strings connect across the howdah and there is even a ladder going up to the Mumak Commander spot.

I also like the base, which has some polystone sand and broken arrows.

And of course the Mumak Head is way cool, great paint and detail on the tusks. You can even see the beast's red tongue.

On the negative, it does not display well next to the 1/6 scale figures and it is rather small. I have it in front of Peter Jackson as Corsair and Haradrim Soldier to make a nice Haradrim Display.

You may not find it worth the $300 retail when you compare to other statues like Cave Troll, Gothmog and Ringwraith on Steed. It is smaller than all of those. I also think the Mumak looks a little skinny, I guess he was starving or something. Maybe a price of $225 to $250 would have been more appropriate. I like the piece, but it was a little costly.

Caution, there are many styrofoam pieces in the howdah with covered twist ties. Once you unpack it, good luck getting all the stuff back in if you ever decide to repack it.

I think this piece is great if you love the Haradrim/Mumak or are a completionist. If you are not one of these, you might want to pass.

Excellent. I actually just paid for mine a little while ago.

Hopefully next week!

That was a very well written review. Seeing the Mumak next to Balrog Daddy and Fell Beast, it looks much better and to similar scale.

:google poor little Haradrim Soldier, standing there with a sword stuck right through him

:wacky Great review Chuck!

Great pics but I cancelled mine. Just to much other stuff coming and I'm looking forward to them more than the Mumak.

Wow, it looks REALLY good next to the Daddy Rog.

My mini beast collection is nearing completion.

No one else seems to have had the problem I did. I had to glue two pieces of the tower back together as they arrived broken. It really was no problem and the glue with a tiny paint touchup solved the problem nicely. The breaks were right where the struts attached to the basket and the mend is really invisible.

Also had to paint over a dab of white paint on the basket. Quite noticeable and I'm surprised it got past inspection.

Still quite pleased with it. especially after standing on the spot where Sam and Frodo first see the "oliphants".

Thank you tomandshell, for this great review, with pictures and all. I can't stress enough that this is one of the many reasons why I'm happy to be a member of this board. Even if I cancelled my order for this piece (and don't regret it), I find these kind of initiatives very interesting and valuable. Thanks again!

Thanks for the very kind words about the review, Danny, Pordey, Davey and everyone else!

Here are two more photos that I didn't manage to get in on time for the review, so I thought I'd post em:

Here's a larger version :naughty

They do look really good together. The mumak looks like a pretty good size piece to me. :D

Chuck or anyone for that matter. Does your Mumak have the end of the middle-right tusk broken off? Mine looks like it was broken off but I can't tell if it's a poly break or by design. The end of the tusk looks "hollow" with a circular indentation in the middle. I just wanted to confirm before I make the decision that it's a poly break. Pics would help tremendously.

I was actually disturbed by that myself, but it is by design.

*I actually did look at Chuck's pic to confirm* :wacky
