I've been waiting for Enterbay's Jack Bauer and David Palmer figures with amazing anticipation. They hit my doorstep this week, and I gotta say that the head sculpt and paint are some of the most amazing I have ever seen. Oh, there's some other issues from the neck down, but you have got to see these heads to appreciate just how amazing they are.

Tonight's guest review goes along with Jack and David...sort of, especially considering what's been happening this season. Jeff Parker looks at both the male and female Secret Service ERT figures from Hot Toys! You can find all the reviews at the usual:

Great review as always, Mike. I like the way your Jack's hair is painted. Mine is dark on the roots and real blond on the tips. It has a shadow along the hairline. When you look at the figure the left side looks like his hair is receding, but it's fine on the other. I think I'll change the hands though because I think the more open hands look a bit creepy.

Nice review. I agree, the sculpts and paint apps look beautiful but the thing I noticed most is the size of the figures. I didn't realize EB figs were so short. And the fact that Palmer is as tall or mayber even a little shorter than Bauer just isn't right, is it?

Great review, I have to say (with the exception of the loose neck and ankles) I had the same feelings on Bauer. It has such an amazing and innovative headsculpt and paint that its hard to notice the other issues. But once you have him in hand some problems are very apparent.

No the height on Palmer is definitey a problem... he is not a short man. Works okay for Bauer, but he (to me) still seems a smidge too small. Keifer is listed as around 5'9" and Haysbert as 6'4". So there should really be almost an inch difference between the two.

The big thing to me is that EB really needs to step up the quality and quantity of the accessories. The gun and silencer are crap, cast in color soft plastic and look like something you'd get out of a quarter machine. And the stand is worthless.

I plan to get a replacement gun and a stand as those are needed. But the rest of the figure (I didn't have as many issues with the body) is really nice. But at $160ish everything should be really nice.

The Palmer head sculpt is a little too round though, and Palmer's head was longer, much like Jack's. I think this basic structure issue is what throws off the likeness slightly, but the rest of the sculpt is extremely good.

Agreed. Modified the pic a little to illustrate it:

That's what I thought. I knew Keifer was a shorter guy and that works just fine but the Palmer figure is way too short.

Palmer is just slightly taller than Jack. I think Enterbay said 2 cm which is practically nothing. But he did seem taller to me when I opened him (longer in the legs I think). But he definately could have been taller. Thankfully he and Jack never spent much face time together.

But I too was surprised how short these seem to Sideshow. OK with Hot Toys, but the big looks like a giant compaired to everyone elses lines now. Never knew it was so "oversized." I was getting suspcious when the Medi clothes fit on Jack.

Both headsculpts and paint apps look excellent. But, I just can't get over how LONG Jack's neck looks.

I decided not to buy these (as much as I love 24....)

Normally, I'd agree, but if the neck was shorter he'd look stumpy in any sort of jacket. Put that Medicom hoodie on this figure and he looks outstanding.

I actually don't think the neck looks too long in person. Although I do have Jack with his head looking down a bit. With those eyes it just looks more menacing that way. But in a few days I should have my Medi figure to steal from :)

So these figures aren't quite as good as our initial hype would have them.

Glad I'm getting the medicom day5 figure to use the clothes on Bauer. He looks much better in those clothes what with reducing the giraffe neck.

I actually don't have a problem with the neck or the ankles. I did notice when I received the Jack figure the ankle pegs were not popped in all the way. I pushed the ankles in further until they popped and the ankle joints now feel tight.

The perfect 1:6 company:

Enterbay sculpting and painting headsculpts (look at these, nuff said)
Hot Toys making the bodies (nothing beats the truetype yet)
Sideshow distributing and pricing these (they are still the best priced figures right now)
Medicom making the clothes? (HT/EB are pretty good though)

you forgot the accessories. :lol

HT maybe? or one of the other military makers? soldier story, ace?

Whoops, I guess I just pulled an Enterbay :lol

Hot Toys and Sideshow are pretty good at accessories though. Sideshow for number, but HT are a little higher quality, but fewer. A combined effort here a think.

it might be the picture, but that "wonky" left ear looks huge. I know, now, from your ref. pics it's shaped like that but in those real-life pics it's like, "oh, that ears a little odd." On the figure it's like, "F%^#, what the hell happened to his ear?!"
