One reason why Rebelscum is more of a news site than a review site. Sometimes opinions just have no place on a website or news channel.

Exactly, plus with all their connections with the various manufacturer's, there'd be a slew of legal things to be done if they start posting editorials and reviews and things, like when you get DVDs and they have to disclaimer that the opinions don't represent the maker blah blah blah. RS gets bashed a lot, but it's a great news site, they work hard to keep people informed of goings on, they offer a great photographic database of SW collectibles, though focused on the core brands because there's just too much to keep track of, and they offer forums for discussion. For what they put out to be for the SW collecting world, they serve the function better than any site I've ever been to.

The heavens have opened ...

I can certainly understand the choice for the jet pack, which would have been very heavy and unwieldy in polystone, and I can live with the choice for areas that would be easily damaged like the gauntlets and armor. But other areas, like the blaster, feet and hands, should have been polystone. The reasoning from Sideshow was that they all had to shrink at the same rate, and ABS and polystone don't. Unfortunately, what this amounts to is an all plastic exterior wearing clothes, and this will severely hurt the perception of value. More on that later.

:clap :clap

There's a couple minor issues that are worth mentioning though, and they may effect you more than they did me. First, the belt (which is removable with a high quality snap in back) has a series of pouches across the front, made in softer plastic. I don't mind this, especially since the gun rubs against them and could have easily damaged them if they were resin. It is another example of why the pose with the arms at the sides would have been preferable, but it's minor enough of an issue for me that I'm not deducting for it. Your mileage may vary.

That choice is tragic.

Your value comments are canon as far as I am concerned.

That is how i will display mine. I will looking at it with a nice cup of coffee (ensuring not to leave any coffee stains on the coffee table with the fine coaster SS have provided):D

that's like saying "I haven't seen the final product or held it, but I know I'll love anyway" :lol :lol

Well, if it matters much I saw the one they had at SDCC. Looked good to me and from what I've seen the difference is minimal. The body doesn't mean chit to me.

Insightful yes:
I'm sure there's some truth to this, but the clothing for these figures is estimated correctly, and there was no mistake in getting the correct fit for Fett's costume, even with the shrinkage of the body and the armor. Then why would it be difficult to get an accurate enough estimate of the shrinkage of the armor and make the polystone body the correct smaller size?

Why didn't we hear that SS had to re-tailor all the Fett costumes?

The rubber base is one thing I am extremely leary of seeing first-hand.

A very fair review. I think this piece looks fantastic. The key issue, I believe, is perception of value, and I think that the review hit that nail on the head. I really appreciate the sanity of this review, and it makes so many points that deserve to be heard and taken seriously.

It's funny that this is a three star review with almost perfect scores in several areas, yet the Fett haters are likely to read it and think, "Oh! Snap!! Sideshow just got their butts handed to them!" What makes this an honest review is the fact that it appreciates the quality and beauty of the piece and only knocks down points where appropriate. I agree with these ratings--in the end there are far more good things about this piece than bad.

I agree. I like Michael's review because its honest. I don't agree on the value part but it's his POV and that's cool with me. :)

Well the SDCC didn't have crimped arm hoses or vinyl/nylon Wookie braids, that's for sure.

Looks like what I saw. I didn't see the body they had there so if that was plastic or poly(which is plasitc) doesn't matter. It looks like it's worth the price to purchase then and now. That's my POV though. :)

What exactly is funny? I rolled my eyes because you said you find my opinion laughable. As far as I'm concerened that's a lack of respect for my 2 cents. Ya know I don't go posting **** like that about others POV and I get my balls busted. Yet, people can go about all the time saying crap about me and my POV and it's ok. :rotfl

Yes, my main complaint about the piece would be the base. It seems hollow and prone to bending/sinking/warping. I think that a solid polystone base like the others have would go a long way in adding that feel of heavy quality. It feels like if you grab the base too tightly the bottom is going to cave in.

That and the loose rangefinder are my two nitpicks. Well, the kinked hoses makes three, but I think I can fix that without a visual distraction, which will be required to keep the rangefinder upright (tape, glue, something stuffed in the crack, etc.).

But overall, I still think this is my all time favorite piece. It's funny how personal opinion can vary. I let a lot of pieces go--Dr. Doom, Hulk PF, neither got as far as shipping. My Sentinel diorama, EX Iron Man comiquette, Grey Hulk VS. Spidey--all highly sought after pieces that it didn't kill me to send away. But even though people think the Fett is highly overpriced it is invaluable to me. It's worth more than any other item in my collection because it's the piece of my dreams and I finally have it. It might not weigh as much as I expected, but that doesn't keep it from looking as beautiful as I had always hoped it would.
