I hate the moves the Celtics made and I really don't understand what Danny Ainge was trying to accomplish here. He says the trades make them a better team. How exactly? They now have no defensive presence down low and also take a hit in the rebounding department.
He also said the trades were good for the future of the franchise. I don't get that statement either. It's not like they traded for two young players that will be with them for the next several years. Unless he thinks he's going to strike gold with the two 2nd rounds picks they also acquired
This franchise should not be worrying about 4 or 5 years down the road, they should be concentrating on winning as many championships as possible while the window is still open.
Before the trade, I thought the celtics were a shoe-in to make the NBA finals. After this trade, the east is now a toss-up. I think the window may have just closed for the Celtics.
Danny Ainge will argue that they got Paul Pierce's eventual successor in Jeff Green, and they had to trade Perkins rather than risk losing him for nothing in free agency. I disagree. I think if the C's kept Perkins and won the championship, even if he later leaves as a free agent, it was worth it.
