If they make improvements, all the better, but I'll feel I'm getting my money's worth with what's in that photo, can just imagine the roaring sculpt.

Thats a bummer.I was hoping for ball joints in this bad boy.But the price is right , im not one to complain.

@zuckuss: no ball joints in the hips, it's the same cut joints as the 7" figure.

Sweet mother... The second I saw that picture, I honestly lost my breath. Papa needs a paper bag -- and also to open a new window to PO this gorgeous piece of ass! Although, I still can't decide which one I want. Open mouth or closed mouth? Haven't seen pics of both yet. I really only want one, and while this new shot has sold me on getting it, the only question now pertains to the head decision.
Now, by "deco sample", what do they mean? Is this a production-quality version, or a prototype to show off what paint/accessory stuff they've done so far?
P.S.: This is perfect. I literally cannot find anything wrong with it. NECA knocked this sucker out of the park! If we get even that early sample without the tweaks they plan on making later, I'll consider this $80 well-spent. Hell, even if it was over $100, I'd pay the price in a heartbeat.

Deco sample is a sample the factory provides for approval of the paint apps, accessory approval, and assembly approval.
So yes, that should be the factory paint app, unless there are tweaks.

Kind of puts into perspective how badly-done the smaller figure is. Then again, this new factory could mean serious business. I'd love to see how they handle Series 3.
And as a side note, I used to own the HT P1 (which I loved), but I sold it a few months ago. He wasn't totally accurate, though I'd say the piece came fairly close. There are times I look back and sort of miss him, yet whenever I remind myself of NECA's 1/4 (and now that I saw this new pic), I honestly couldn't care less. THIS is the P1. THIS is the definitive representation of him in figure form. And NECA's doing us a hell of a solid by making it. Even if they have to limit the releases and bump up the price, it's worth it for a new factory and more value.
While I'm not sure I can call it the 2011 Figure of the Year, it's by far the best figure NECA has ever done. Their other releases coupled with McFarlane's stuff don't even come close to licking the pedestal this guy stands upon.

That's a lot better than my expectations. I don't think they changed the netting. If you look at his right peck, it's still hexagonal. But, all put together it doesn't bug me like it did on the unpainted proto.
I tell you, hot toys, and maybe now neca are stepping up their game on quality. SSC better start to get their crap in order with paint application quality. I realize they make more statues and dios and such, and these guys do figures. But, I love the franchises, and it gets old buying SSC stuff that has slop paint work. Makes no matter to me if it's a figure or a dio, I'll buy what's done best.
