But he wasn't allowed use it. Didn't he have a sidearm? Poor Frost did and never even got off a shot.

According to this Wikia, Hudson was equipped with a pulse rifle and motion tracker. No side arm.

Hudson was outfitted with standard issue M3 Pattern Personal Armor and an M10 Pattern Ballistic Helmet for protection, with a TNR Shoulder Lamp attachment for illumination. He had notably customized his armor's chest plate with an image of a dagger piercing a skull and crossbones, with the words "or Glory" painted beneath (i.e. "Death or Glory"). Hudson had also stencilled a love-knot and the name "Louise" over his heart (a reference to Bill Paxton's real-life wife Louise Newbury),[10] painted the phrase "Contents under pressure, dispose of properly" on his armor's back plate, a pair of googly on the back of his right shoulder plate, painted a magic 8 ball on the back-left side of his helmet and humorously added a can opener to his crotch protection.

As the covering element of First Squad's gun team, Hudson carried the standard assault rifle of the Corps, the M41A Pulse Rifle as well as an M314 Motion Tracker. Also, as a combat technician, Hudson also carried a field technician kit in a trifold pouch on his belt which contained various tools, wrenches and electronic devices, including two alligator clips allowing him to bypass sealed doors.

There's no way he's closing the door on future Marines, this is Randy toying with us. He also seemed to suggest the Kenner Marines would happen eventually so that would qualify as a marine and he also talked about re-releasing Series 1 Hicks and Hudson at some point. They want to keep the line going and outside of xenos, the last 2 movies and Alien Covenant the Marines will play a part somewhere down the line just maybe not until 2017 or later. Even if they did not make anymore I'd be happy but damn I would love a Drake before it's all said and done.
I hope the Kenner Marines come out looking something like this guy's customs (if dedicated parts like Hick's rocket launcher and be-goggled Fritz helmet are off the table):

I really like the conceit of giving them all different coloured armour (where the original
Kenner Drake just had a sleeveless T-shirt, for example).

A little issue I have with the current set of figures from Aliens is that technically they are all from different parts of the film, there's no completing any one scene in particular.

The initial Hicks and Hudson releases are from the ''Game Over man'' scene. The 2 pack Hicks is from the Sub Level 3 battle. The 2 pack Hudson is from the Ops battle. Ripley is from the hive scene and the Powerloader VS Queen scene.
Well, not quite. A Powerloader Ripley should really have a ripped T-shirt and no bandoliers/webbing.

I tried making my own Sub-Level 3 Hicks and Hudson, but the latter won't be truly complete until I can fill in the acid damage NECA sculpted into his armour:

I never really thought about that until I read your post. I customized my series 1 Hicks and Hudson with helmets to help but to me there should never have been a Marine sold without at least a removable helmet with the exception of a Hicks with headset that we haven't got yet.
Indeed.

Acid damage?

The same acid that burned his arm when hicks killed the alien with his shotgun ('eat this!') burnt Hudson's armor as well.

The NECA figure includes this damage. If you want a truly accurate pre-hive-battle Hudson, you have to either replace or 'repair' his armor.

Also, a bit of sidetracking here, but if anyone wants more info on what exactly every marine carried, I have spent more time than is healthy researching that topic. A moderator on the AL forum and I put this together for a panel at comicpalooza. While intended for costuming, I assure you the middle sections on character specific gear is quite valuable for figure building. It includes absolutely everything about the colonial marine gear, character load-outs, and more.

(It was a bit rushed so forgive the occasional typo. )

Indeed.
I did the same thing with Hudson, swapped a Hicks forearm, sanded off bandage and apoxied upper arm , apoxied in acid damaged armor then touched up paint. then went as far to cut magazine off, opened mag wells of pulse rifles, for both Hicks and Hudson. Isnt OCD great :gah::mwaha

I also never noticed the acid damage on Hudson's armour.

Well, not quite. A Powerloader Ripley should really have a ripped T-shirt and no bandoliers/webbing..

So it's even worse than I thought :lol

:lol Then Hudson was defenceless in the Sub Level 3 battle. No wonder he went from cocky to scared ***tless.

I know right?! Everyone gives Hudson a hard time for being a wuss until he "redeemed" himself during his death. The truth is he never once had a loaded weapon and clear sight lines to the enemy until his death. He was actually very capable when he knows what is going on. Even after his freakout he just needed a little pep talk and be set to a clear purpose, which executed very well! The depth of his character is seldom appreciated and its a shame

Hudson had plenty of harsh language in his arsenal alright.

But yeah, he's obviously quite capable - he wouldn't be in that squad otherwise. He just finds himself in a situation where he's basically disarmed and even the guys who still have firepower are being picked off by an enemy they can't even distinguish from the walls.

Nice description makes me want to rewatch Aliens right now!

Yeah, I was just talking to my wife last night, and I was comparing Hudson's situation to how I would react if she screamed for me to come kill a big spider. I would go in all cocky prepared to kick the spider's butt, but if I walked in and saw a human sized spider I would be acting much like Hudson. Even as a kid I thought Hudson was pretty bad a** in the end once he collected himself.

Randy said that Vehicles for the Kenner Alien line would be too expensive. I think I died a little inside. The Kenner Predators got one, right? That's favoritism right there! :lol

The Evac Fighter was only vehicle I had from the Aliens line and I didn't have any damn marines to pilot it. Pretty sure I had the motorbike from the Terminator line but I can't quite remember.

I can't imagine if NECA ever decided to re-create this that they would keep the ejecting capture-pod feature - it would be a sure way of assuring that your aliens would be smashed to pieces upon impact. :lol

Gotta love the rockets being called Alienators :rotfl But damn that looks like a pretty cool vehicle. I only ever saw the figures in my local toy shop but never the vehicles, not even the power loader.

I have to think that the sales of the neca power loader from Aliens were not as big as they had hoped, so now any future vehicles are more or less off the table for now. As a fan of the Aliens line that sucks but as a business person I can understand Randy and Co not wanting to funnel time, money and resources into a giant undertaking like a APC or smaller even and it bombing.

Cool, so that's something they would consider. Seems like a great way to get Newt out there and do a much requested version of Ripley.

I think that's one of those lies they tell. Or it's true for just right now but for as long as they're making figures from the Alien franchise there will always be potential for them to at least do Drake and other variants of the marines we've gotten so far.

Saw some other tweets too - apparently they've only shown 2/3rds of the Alien 3 creature pack.....I guess that means the bambi-burster hasn't been seen yet?

Another one stating that Sigourney Weaver doesn't want her figures done with extreme facial expressions. That was in response to a question about getting a figure for this scene:

View attachment 280848

Damn that sucks. Its one of the most iconic scenes in Alien 3 and in the series imo. Guess that also means we wont get this version of her either. I hope to at least get a head swap out part with another figure though.

ripley9.jpg

But still hope we get Clemens.

If I remember correctly too, during sdcc someone asked Randy if the molten lead version of the Dog was on display and he confirmed it was but also said he did not know what to do with it. So I guess on the one hand its not completely off the table as a true variant but it sucks that he has no clear idea how to handle it getting out there.
