...I don't get this mentality. I bought Newt, sure it was more expensive than I'd like, but once she gets in my hands, she's out of the package. Why would I wait for another, possibly less expensive, version? I just need one Newt to have next to my Ripley.

Might be that I don't consider myself a collector, but an Alien fan who always wanted to have figures from the movies to display and appreciate together, and who finally has the chance to do so.

And I sure hope plan B comes through and more people is able to get Newt. She might not be retailer friendly, but more fans deserve to have her in their collections.

I get what your saying it's like the damage is already done I wouldn't need another Newt, my Newts great.

But let's say you waited and Newt was announced for $20-$40. There's no way you'd say I'm going to rip open the ultra rare one I got for $100 instead of spending another $20 to get a standard Newt to open.

Also there's a pretty good chance you'd be forced to buy another Newt even if you don't want to.... Might be in a two pack with a new Ripley or a figure you want?

All I'm saying is that you'd have options this this way... That's the mentality.

Newt might not get a release at all but it seems that whatever the outcome is gonna be now it's past SDCC we should be hearing more soon.

...I simply don't see the point of having a sealed Newt at all, rare/expensive or not :D

Sealed collections do look nice. If I could afford to I'd collect both ways with NECA.

I still think you should update with pictures of your Terminator collection. But that's for a different thread... :wink1:

I have a Newt on the way. I have absolutely no intention of opening her up. Not after having paid $60 for it. If plan B comes through, I will buy a second Newt and open that. The SDCC version stays in package. I used to collect action figures in the 90's. I had thousands. I mainly did the MIP thing. If I wanted a figure to display, I always purchased a second one.

My views are a little different today. I don't like buying things I won't display. In this case though, I have to have Newt for the collection, but I am not going to diminish the value of the figure by opening it. Even if I really wanted to open it to add to a display, I would at least wait a couple of months before doing so. It really doesn't make sense to open it up right away. You've waited this long for it, what's a little longer? It can't hurt and may truly benefit. It's not like we have absolutely no clue there will be another opportunity. It has been stated.

...in what way it would benefit me keeping my Newt in package? I don't think you mean keeping its "value" cause like I said, for me the real value is on displaying her on my shelf, in a cool pose, next to my other Alien figures :D

I think you're still missing the point. No-one is saying you should keep your Newt sealed forever or never have a Newt loose.

What we are saying is that it might benefit you / can't hurt if you wait a little bit to see what's happening,

As soon as you open up your $100 Newt that you paid $100 for, its gonna be worth pretty much the same as the $20.00 you paid $20.00 for.

The difference most likely is 1 accessory

So if you had the choice of getting a $20 Newt and not having to open up the $100 one I don't see why you wouldn't take it?

It's the same reason why you bought your $100 Newt because you didn't want to open an $150 one.

The sky's the limit of what you do with your sealed Newt.

If you wait a little you could be in this situation,

But again Newt might never be released so that's why you got your $100 one in case.

It's just an interesting discussion that's all.

Well my replacement 1/4 scale Aliens warrior , Weland-Yutani Commando and Dog Alien (brown Version) turned up. No sign of the replacement Ripley and grey Alien as yet. I'm very happy to report that the Quarter scale Alien is pretty much perfect. Good paintwork on the teeh, no black marks, the paint work overal is superb, the jaw is nice and tight as are the joints and the tongue extends! When you get a figure that's been QC'd correctly it reminds you why you buy NECA figure's in the first place, they really are a work of art. The Commnado has eyes this time! I haven't got him out of the packaging as yet, though I feel it's worth taking a risk. Sadly the Dog is great...apart from the fact the bottom jaw actually belongs to the grey version and has silver teeth as opposed to the top jaws yellow, so he's going back. Two outta three 'aint bad though! :)

I see the point being made about Newt, it's certainly food for thought. I might keep her in package for awhile until we find out what the situation for a rerelease is. If it looks like it isn't going to happen then she's getting opened.

I still think you should update with pictures of your Terminator collection. But that's for a different thread... :wink1:

:lol rjszar probably has a far better Terminator collection than me. I just have a lot of the same thing with minor changes and different pose choices whereas I get the impression his collection would be far more diverse.

Also my display conditions would disgust many people here. Cramped, hodgepodge and disorganised compared to others. Even though I've been saving a lot of money these days, investing in the proper display is still at least a few years away due to more pressing concerns.

...I'm missing your point indeed, but you seem to be talking money. I honestly don't care if my Newt is worth $20 or $100 to others so why I wouldn't open my Newt as soon as I got her? I get what your saying "from a collector's point of view," MIP figures are worth more, etc, etc., but you are missing my point: I don't care what I've paid for her (I would have preferred paying a lot less obviously) but what I care is that she'll be next to Ripley as it should. I paid the money to do exactly that, whether or not there's a cheaper option later on, and that's the value I care about. Cheers :)

Obviously I'd have no expectation of a NECA figure or even a Hot Toys figure becoming valuable enough to pay college fees. :lol I'd more have in mind it paying for another wave of NECA figures or something like that. And of course I would only sell it if I was able to get Newt by means of whatever plan B they work out....but heck even in that scenario it's likely the SDCC Newt wouldn't hold value anyway so it's probably all Newt...errr, moot.

In a nutshell you're saying even if you spent $1000 for an exclusive Newt there'd be absolutely no reason at all to keep that one to the side and open up the slightly different $20 version instead. Because she wouldn't be posed next to Ripley as quick as it could've been, and god would only know what you'd do if you ended up with an extra sealed Newt that's actually worth something.

If you can't see why it could be worth waiting to see if Newt gets released in a two-pack with Ripley that you'd want to buy anyway or the like, then I give up. I'd personally be pretty distraught if this happened to me and I ended up with two opened perhaps identical Newts one that costed nearly 20 times more than the other.

But if you go in with no regrets & money is not a problem then Yh I get where you're coming from.
