I think I forgot to upload these pics after my short review of Brett and Parker...

Beautiful work. Sadly it only emphasizes that we still need a proper Giger head.
hmm, for me it is the other way around - that wonderful repaint attracts all attention, so strange face is not so visible anymore.

I haven't posted here in AGES, but have been recently updating my NECA Aliens and Predators and was excited when I was able to get this guy into a swimming poseIMG_6136.jpg

So NECA's wave 3 of Alien's 40th Anniversary arrived here...

First off, the alien itself.

It's pretty much the same as the Ultimate, with only very minor changes.
1. The hip articulation is the new ball joint-type, which is much better! Still, amazingly, one leg is slightly longer than the other... :lol It's really not as noticeable as with previous aliens - barely noticeable, actually - but it still is the case.
2. The torso joint/post is shorter than the Ultimate figure, probably the same as the earlier 35th Anniversary figure. So, again, much better! I didn't like the elongated torso of the Ultimate figure...
3. The dome is slightly foggy. Unfortunately, the front is still quite blacked out, which is a bit of a bummer, I was hoping for a cleaner, more translucent look at the from of the dome.

Of note, I got a perfect figure! I haven't found a single QC issue on it. Of course the joints were fairly stuck, but a bit of heat loosened them up. So I'm going to sell the Ultimate one and keep this.

Now, on to Ash.

Brilliant figure! Not quite as strong as Brett and Parker though.
The paint apps are not as clean and, as a matter of fact, the paint itself has a different feel to it. It feels somewhat rough, textured, not smooth and a bit glossy like it is on Brett and Parker. The paint on the face is also different, it looks painted on, like the older figures and not "printed" on like on the newer ones. I'm thinking the likeness suffers a bit from it as well, because he looks as if he were wearing make up. I wonder if I got a bootleg...
I'm not terribly bothered though, for such a small scale the figure looks great next to Brett and Parker. The accessories are all great, but I think they should have included a tray for the facehugger.

And finally, Kane.

Not much to say about this one...
The sculpt is good, the paint apps are great, only slightly different from the earlier version. Otherwise, everything is the same. John Hurt's sculpt is recognisable, that's all one has to know about this one.

So overall I'm pretty happy with the lot. Having Ash, Parker, Brett and Ripley in their Nostromo jumpsuits is amazing, and I think NECA are slowly inching towards the perfect alien figure. Maybe for the 50th anniversary! :lol

So I'm going to try to find someone over here who can repaint my aliens.

I'll see how they do with the v1.0 of the concept alien head, and if they do a great job, I'll let them have a go at the 40th anniversary body and then switch heads.
The concept head and dome are by far my favourites of the aliens made by NECA. Maybe I'll ask them to repaint the 35th Anniversary head as well...

I wasn't even aware that it was "lost", I've seen pictures of what's left of the suit for quite a while.
And what's going up for auction is clearly put together with casts of other suits, or maybe the original statue. That's why the face looks so misshapen.

Welcome back, a 2006er! I definitely recognize your avatar and sig. Nice display there.

I only bought Kane and Ash from this wave, got them off a UK seller on ebay. They got here fast and box condition was pretty good. I was braced for the worst with how fragile this packaging style is.

Ash is great. Surprised he's entirely new, doesn't look like they reused anything from previous figures. I know what you mean about the face paint, even the neck - definitely a matte finish whereas Parker and Brett had sheen to them. I'm not too fussed about that.

Yeah the tray with the dissected facehugger would have been a great accessory and we don't have that - maybe they used up all their budget already. Oh well.

My criticisms of what we do have - as so frustratingly often, one leg longer than the other so he stands with a lean. I dunno wtf is up with NECA and this issue.
He also has no swivel waist (BttF II Marty didn't either) - strange. Another budgetary thing? Well, it's not really a big deal.

Overall I'm delighted to have this guy and thanks to NECA for making him.

Kane - I'm surprised how pleased I am to have a spacesuit Kane with a likeness looking out through that visor. The spacesuits were already great figures and now this lends a greater sense of completion to that set. I still have my old Kane collapsed on the floor with the facehugger head.

The NECA Alien line is terrific if a little flawed. Awesome to now have the entire Nostromo crew in some form - albeit now with an increased need and demand that they all be made in their regular Nostromo jumpsuits. How far off might Dallas, Kane and Lambert be and will they all come out at once? With so many ''Big Chaps'' released in this 40th anniversary collection how will they fulfil the creature quota if/when they put out those remaining human figures? Just rereleases? Or might we finally get that piranha head from NECA. Who knows.

As for the flaw I mentioned - well, it's the scaling inconsistency. It started with the Alien itself - NECA have historically made Aliens too tall and Predators too short. The spacesuit figures also had an issue where, due to budget, they just reused the same sculpt for Lambert as with Kane and Dallas when really she ought to have been smaller. Then a third scaling issue arose with the Parker and Brett wave (first noticed by P.) where suddenly the human figures have gotten larger. Parker in particular is way too big, oversized in general by about 10% I previously estimated. So it's not like you can cut out parts of him to shrink him because then he'll be out of proportion with himself. He's not inhumanly large but he is inaccurately large. The figure should just barely be taller than Ripley but he absolutely towers over her. We are no doubt stuck with this and unfortunately NECA would probably not acknowledge the problem let alone fix it on future releases.

I hate to criticize them too much though because no other collectibles company has ever done what they have done and produced the range of characters from these movies that we now have. I am eternally grateful to them for that.

My Neca Aliens experience has always been limited. They nearly hooked me a few times but QC issues warned me off. I have a Ripley and a Xeno and decided to sell them, but of course, I broke the Xeno's leg clean off posing it for pictures. Neca have delivered some truly amazing things that I thought I'd never see, but they are so hit-or-miss.

Indeed, NECA's QC is atrocious. Imho, they should raise the price of the figurines and spend the money on decent quality control.
