Actually the question asked was:
whether we would get a Vasquez OR Drake with a smartgun.

And Randy said "good chance"

He was most likely just talking about the Vasquez from the recent announcement.

Drake is still a no go as far we know guys

I think Randy might have been more specific in his answer if that were the case though. I still feel optimistic.

I would like to think so too but this is Randy we're talking about, he doesn't tend to go into too much detail.

If someone asked the same question but directly about Drake I guarantee the response would be:

"Not part of the License"

A lot of people will take that as a straight "no not happening". - Good trick of making people shocked / surprised when we do actually see the figure release.

But like you said...

Nothing we didn't know. It doesn't tell us about their intentions though - are they/have they been pursuing the likeness rights to the entire cast with a desire to make all of them as figures. I don't think they'd answer that.

I'm thinking, unless Randy managed to somehow entirely miss the mention of Drake in that question, that he wouldn't say 'good chance' because he has got to know that it will be taken by many as tacit confirmation of Drake.

And I think it would be much easier for Randy to overlook the OR bit of that question's phrasing than to overlook the fact it asks about Drake.

Drake just seems very much like one they would make too. Much to Jester's frustration I think NECA will front the squad with first the main marines as they have already done (Hicks, Hudson, Vasquez) and second the more distinctive looking marines (who also happen to have more lines) - Drake, Frost, Apone if they are possible. The Gormans, Crowes, Dietrich, Wierzbowski's, Ferros and Spunkmeyers will be last on their priority list.

My worry though is that a strategy like that might mean those lower priority characters just never happen based on the principle that lower-seller characters would want to be mixed in with higher-seller characters to assist in sales. A bunch of low-sellers at the back end of the line might see them tank at retail.

I can't see Neca not offering a Drake at some point. Given the amount of time and tooling required for making the accessories ( smartgun / harness / mounting arms) for Vasquez that would be directly used for Drake,( along with flame thrower from Windrix ) its a easy carry over.

As far as other characters, Apone and Gorman, would be on my buy list, with their parts in main scenes in the movie, Burke would a nice throw in but not likely. As far as lower characters being mixed in with 2 figure packs, that wouldn't be that bad.

I agree, with everything that went into Vasquez and tooling the smart gun & everything unique to a smart gunner, I'm sure they only jumped into making her knowing they could reuse the molding for her smart gun on Drake. At least that's what I'm holding on to - lol.

We can probably rule out Apone. Having said that, lets say NECA are somehow willing and able to make every other member of the squad - in that scenario I would happily accept a generic headsculpt for the missing actor rather than skipping that character entirely.

You always say that, a-dev, you always say "I've got a bad feeling about this strategy." ;)

Look at it this way: they have the vast majority of parts to make Crowe, Frost and Wierzbowski already tooled up and we haven't seen them yet...

I'd happily accept that for all of the remaining Marines if that's what it took to get them on shelves.

I'm just going to keep my expectations low when it comes to the Marines and new characters. Look at what happened to the Planet of the Apes Classics line. Those were great figures with fantastic detail but it was a ****ing travesty that they never made a 7" Taylor. They even had two or three more characters planned that got canned.

If Vasquez and baby Newt end up being the only honest to goodness new figures, so be it. Better than nothing or, worse, another Alien or Predator. It'd be awesome to have Vasquez and Drake side by side though . . .

I agree that the since they got the tooling for a smart gunner with Vaz it makes sense to capitalise on it and do a Drake while they are at it.

I do wonder what NECA will reveal on Alien Day in a few weeks though ? They pretty much are heavily hinting that Vaz, Newt and Kenner Ripley will be on sale on the day, but what else could they reveal ?

I'm guessing they could do a few more marine reveals but besides that I am stumped.

I'm being a little thick here, when people talk about Newt and Vasquez possibly being Alien Day exclusives and available to buy on that day, what does this actually mean? Do they still get a worldwide release? Or are we talking a smaller limited exclusive release? Thanks.

I think a lot of us are basing this on neca and their tweets so far leading up to the Alien Day celebrations which by all notions seem to say that these three - Vaz, Newt and Kenner style Ripley - will be available for sale on that day. It's not 100 % certain mind, but they have not told us otherwise.

That's what I'm struggling to understand, for sale on that day from where?

I'm not sure but I think Randy tweeted somewhere that Newt and Vasquez would be released this July/August, and the Kenner Ripley would be for alien day. Might need to confirm that though.

You must of missed the tweet, but its been confirmed that Vasquez and Newt are not going to be on sale for Aliens day. However the kenner Ripley will be.

Guess that makes sense - probably an exclusive release and limited in number. The UK distributor and other countries most likely isn't getting this release?

I'd treat it like an SDCC exclusive... £££

My bets on Newt and Vasquez being part of Series 9, probably two of four in that wave.

Only other way would be a two pack. But that would b a weird choice to say the least.

But to round off no-one worry that the release of Newt and Vaz is going to be limited / hard to get, they will be retail and available to everyone when the time comes

I'm looking into buying two versions of the NECA Big Chap Alien figure. One version I'm getting is the quarter scale and I would also like a 7 inch version; however, I'm confused as I see two versions of the 7 inch figure with the packaging being one difference.

My question is, which version is better? I guess one version is a second updated improved sculpt release or is it an exclusive with different packaging? I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
