I'm looking into buying two versions of the NECA Big Chap Alien figure. One version I'm getting is the quarter scale and I would also like a 7 inch version; however, I'm confused as I see two versions of the 7 inch figure with the packaging being one difference.
My question is, which version is better? I guess one version is a second updated improved sculpt release or is it an exclusive with different packaging? I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
You must of missed the tweet, but its been confirmed that Vasquez and Newt are not going to be on sale for Aliens day. However the kenner Ripley will be.
Guess that makes sense - probably an exclusive release and limited in number. The UK distributor and other countries most likely isn't getting this release?
I'd treat it like an SDCC exclusive... £££
My bets on Newt and Vasquez being part of Series 9, probably two of four in that wave.
Only other way would be a two pack. But that would b a weird choice to say the least.
But to round off no-one worry that the release of Newt and Vaz is going to be limited / hard to get, they will be retail and available to everyone when the time comes
Is the any back and forth movement to the 1/4 scale aliens legs? The one leg on mine seems to be more forward than the other

Yeah, for the 7" Big chap they made 2 basic versions (with some variants)
The first version was released back in I believe 2008. This was the first one that NECA made, and it was a stand-alone release. For the time it was very good, but prone to breakages. For this version the packaging has an image of the figures' head and upper torso on the bottom left corner of the packaging. On the right of the bottom of the packaging it is labeled as "ALIEN".
The second version was released in 2014 as part of the Aliens series 2. This figure has a new updated sculpt and articulation scheme as well as new paint deco making it superior to the old version in every way. This figures' packaging has an Alien egg on the bottom left and the label of "Xenomorph" on the right of the packaging.
There are a few other variants like the Toys R Us all-black color scheme, or new concept suit translucent versions, but at the end of last year they released a new boxed version as a Wal-mart exclusive. They said it was a straight re-pack, but there are differences.
The first being the paint, there is a lot more brown coloration in the boxed version. The second is the teeth, both the upper and bottom front teeth are much longer in this figure. The third difference is a variant, some figures have an upper lip in a lowered position like the series 2 figure (but with the longer teeth) and some versions have a headsculpt with the upper lip raised. I could never find them at Wal-Mart, but NECA does still have some available at their ebay store. Unfortunately, you cannot specify what lip variant you want. Here is the link: Aliens 7" Scale Action Figure '79 Big Chap Xenomorph in Window Box NECA | eBay
Personally, I prefer the boxed raised lip version myself.
There are 2 versions of the 1/4th figure too, one older one based off of the 2008 figure, and the new one that just came out. As long as the packaging looks like this:Alien 1 4th Scale Figure 1979 Big Chap Xenomorph Alien NECA | eBay then you are getting the new one. But there is also a lowered and raised upper lip variant on the new 1/4th figure as well.
Wait so they have more than just a swivel? The legs are on very tight ball joints, they do move, but it's tight (which is good due to the size).

Couldn't agree more. Newt/Vasquez are probably 2 of 4 for the Series 9 wave. They have stated repeatedly that they will NOT do an all human wave. They clearly have some surprises in store either for this wave, Aliens Day exclusives, and/or more. I would bet on 4 for Series 9 of which 1 will surely be a xenomorph of some sort but extremely curious on the prospect of 1 additional human in the wave. Thinking Drake is going to happen one way or another just based off the financials gained by reusing the Smart Gun/chassis/etc tooling that they do for Vasquez. As most folks are stating, QUITE an exciting time for us ALIENS fans!!

I wonder if these are in scale to NECA's 1:12th figures.
Does anyone here know?
What do people think the alien of series 9 will be? Im kind of hoping it will be the puppet version of the aliens warrior.
