Blackberry Storm Vs. Samsung Omnia

Nope, the Storm does not have a microSDHC slot. Unless you're a memory fiend I don't think the difference between standard microSD and microSDHC is a big deal. (MicroSDHC is a newer format that supports higher memory capacities than the older MicroSD cards).

So you can upgrade memory in the Storm as well, but ultimately the Omnia has more potential in that department?

Judging by the specs the Omnia actually seems to be the better phone and in expandability, apps, playback feature with video and camera...

So if you had to choose between the two, which one would you go with?

And can you use Flash apps. on either one of these? I've heard of difficulties with that.

That is absolutely right.

Also, since everything on campus is basically on Wi-Fi, can I prevent paying $30 a month for internet on the phone, pending a decent connection?

I just think no Wi-Fi on the Storm is a big negative for me.

I like Samsung they make a decent product no matter what carrier has their phone, I'm pretty happy with my Instinct and it's basically pretty close to the same specs of the Omnia.

1) better camera 5 meg pixel
2) play back feature with codecs, divx, etc...
4) more memory
5) supports apps such as MS Office, Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook (in case if u use any of these during school, I use them for work)

That pretty much seals the deal with me and that u can't go to AT&T so Apple is out...

So you can't use the MS Office, etc. on the Storm? I read somewhere that you could download similar apps that would allow you to use such files.

And sorry for all of these questions, but as I try to look this stuff up online, I get more questions.

Is a Micro SD card similar to a mini-removable storage drive for files or is it a memory stick to make your phone work faster???

If you get the Storm through Verizon, the $30 internet plan is required. Verizon makes internet/data plans mandatory for all smartphones.

I know, it sucks.

That is true. At the moment I don't know if there are any official Office functionality Apps out there, but I think you can find some 3rd party Apps that'll fill that void for now. (I'd suggest visiting the Crackberry.com forums if you want some 3rd party apps).

See and to me that just seems like a hassle whenever you could go with a phone that all ready has it built in and is made to support the apps like word doc, outlook e-mails, etc...

Just me, seems like more work but probably could be done through a third party app as said up above.

For me, I like the Omnia because:

1.) Wi-Fi
2.) MS Office compatibility
3.) Better memory

I like the Storm:

1.) Click screen
2.) Better resolution
3.) More apps???????

Are these valid reasons to even like these phones????? HELP!!!!!

I guess the big "nail in the coffin" is Wi-Fi. Should that be a deal breaker?

First, answer this question for me: Are you getting either phone through Verizon?

Yes, I'm sticking with Verizon. So no matter which phone I get, it's going to be through them.

The only reason I narrowed it down to these is because it seems these are the two big contenders that Verizon has right now.

Ok then -

Omnia:

1.) Wi-Fi --------> since you'll already have a constant internet connection via the mandatory $30/month plan, wi-fi isn't a real dealbreaker (although surfing speeds should be faster on wi-fi and be being able to choose between wi-fi and verizon's connection whenever you want is great)
2.) MS Office compatibility ------> The Blackberry should have similar applications once the App store is released.
3.) Better memory -----> How much memory do you need on your smartphone lol. But yeah, in this regard the Omnia wins.

I like the Storm:

1.) Click screen -----> It's a neat feature and it makes web surfing and typing much easier, but I don't think this is a dealbreaker)
2.) Better resolution -------> yes, I've loaded lots of movies and tv shows on my Storm and they look great on the screen.
3.) More apps??????? ---------> Once Blackberry's App World is up and running, we should see a wealth of Apps in the coming weeks and months (hopefully)

All the above are great reasons to consider either phone. In the end though I can't choose which one is the better phone for you since I've only tried the Storm. All I know is that the Storm has the potential to grow as a Applications platform and at the moment there aren't any plans for that on the Omnia. Like I've said before, you should try both phones in person. A lot of people finalize these kinds of decisions after getting a feel of the phones in-hand.

But here's what's bothering me. Honestly, the MAIN reason I want the Omnia is because of Wi-Fi. According to the Verizon Store I went to the other day, I can buy an Omnia WITHOUT having to purchase an unlimited internet plan for $30 additional a month. So if I ever did use the internet on the phone, they would charge me a per minute rate plus the amount of data transferred. So essentially if I'm on campus all day, I can just use their Wi-Fi connection for free and not even have to pay for the internet usage.

The Storm doesn't have Wi-Fi capability so I'm forced to buy the unlimited internet plan if I want to use the internet at all.

Also, can you create MS Word documents on the Storm?? I heard you could only edit them and even then (like you said) you have to download the apps. And would then "clog" up the phone with a bunch of programs etc. etc.? Are the apps. free to download or do they charge you per program?
