Just saw this on instagram... so amazing.

But I think that if the movie is set after the Prometheus sequel then it has the possibility of existing after the original Alien and Aliens... no one said exactly when the movie is taking place yet.

This is pretty neat news!
I haven't seen Elysium, it never piqued my interest, but I thought District 9 was a great movie. Looking forward to more news about this.

Feels like a good pairing, but it's hard for me to envision what it would be like. I loved B9, and thought Elysium was a bit underrated. I just hope they don't try to force him into the craptastic Prometheverse.

The artwork is what has me excited for this.

It feels very expanded universe. Much like how the comics and the early video games (not the newer s****y ones) took the aesthetic of the films, but then went into different directions and environments with it. Bring it on.

Nice :drool

Variety picked up the story. They say it will be set "years after the Prometheus sequel." Still more reference to it being a continuation of the prequels instead of ALIENS. Hmmm.

Alien: New Movie Confirmed with Director Neill Blomkamp | Variety

"Years after Prometheus sequel" could mean a lot of things...

from superherohype:

At this point it’s uncertain precisely what route the new film will take or if Signourney Weaver (whose Ellen Ripley was featured in the concept designs) will be returning to the franchise.

“[Sigourney] knows about it,” Blomkamp told ComingSoon.net last week, “and part of it was just inspired by speaking to her on set when we were filming ‘Chappie,’ and getting her thoughts on ‘Alien’ and what she thought of the movies that came after ‘Aliens’ and what she felt about Ripley and what was incomplete for her about Ripley. There was so much fuel in what she was telling me.”

You can read more about Blomkamp’s thoughts on the new project right here and check back for further information as soon as it becomes available!

Blomkamp’s latest, Chappie, also stars Weaver and lands in theaters March 6!

While there’s no telling how indicative they are of Blomkamp’s current plans, you can check out the original art he posted in the gallery viewer at the bottom of this page!

UPDATE: 20th Century Fox has since confirmed the news, clarifying that this is, indeed, a sequel to the original Alien franchise and not the Prometheus sequel currently set for release March 4, 2016.

All right then. Give me a solid trailer showing Ripley and Hicks back in a Cameron-esque world and this might be my most anticipated sequel...ever.

And for those who think that the xenomorphs have been overplayed and aren't scary anymore, let me remind you of 2002's 28 Days Later and 2004's Dawn of the Dead. We'd seen zombies in everything from classic horror films to straight-up comedies, and yet those two movies filmed them in such a way that they became scary as hell again. I want Ripley, Hicks, and true xenomorphs. Blomkamp can do it. Here's hoping that they do indeed sign on and he doesn't drop the ball.

After all this craziness (Star Wars original cast returning, Arnold back as Terminator, possibly Sigorney and Biehn returning), Keaton coming back as Batman wouldn't shock me. Beetlejuice is set to return after 27 years.

Seems like we live in a time where any movie (or collectible from a movie) is possible.

Yep. Spidey back with Marvel too. And after ROTK I honestly never thought I'd see Ian McKellen back as Gandalf, Andy Serkis Gollum, Legolas, etc., ever again either. Crazy times these past couple years (and even months.)

Peter Weller back as Robocop? But then again his presence didn't preclude Robocop 2 from being, in the most part, a failure.

Disappointing news all around... Was hoping he'd follow Chappie with Disrtict 10 finally.

He should let Ridley handle the Alien universe.

There hasn't been a good Alien movie since Aliens...IMO.

Just thinking about this, perhaps the key isn't so much the creatures themselves being scary - we can assume and accept that the aliens will be lethal no matter how used to seeing them we have been now. But part of the problem has been we've not had any characters since Alien 3 that were in any way 'real' and sympathetic. That could change now that we might have a (human) Ripley and Hicks back. We care about these two by default and will do so as long as they aren't written to be stupid like the crew of the Prometheus. So putting those characters in peril will give us a tense and scary film. Not the same kind of scary as Alien maybe but at least on the level of Aliens.

It would also ride on Fox not being ****ing idiots and announcing it as the first part of a new trilogy or something - market the film as a standalone one-off so as we don't necessarily assume that the main characters are getting out alive so as to participate in the next film.

When I first saw ALIENS back in '86 I kind of felt like part of the reason we did't see the Queen "die" was so that she could return in another movie. What if Blomkamp isn't planning on just having Ripley face more generic aliens or even another Queen but rather THE Queen? Weyland Yutani rushes out to retrieve the Sulaco and sends salvage crews out in all directions. One of them happens upon her while she's still floating in space...

Things I want to see in this movie.

1. An updated design of the giger alien.

2. Alien Queen

3. Please no hybrid of any kind like newborn

Those are the list to help sideshow and hottoys to make some descent updated version of the aliens.

As for the story well I just hope it will be good. (obviously)
