Saw this last night, it's no where near as bad as the reviews say it is. It's good, not great, but then again I also think D9 is good but not great and I hate Elysium. Chappie is saved by Chappie himself, everyone else around him is forgettable. The film was entertaining for sure, I could do without the excessive violence at the end and the acting is way over the top at points but that's just par for Neil at this point, all of his films seem to have over acting in them, not dissimilar from some anime which Neil seems to be influenced by.
The ending leans toward being down right dumb but it's late enough in the film that I don't feel it hinders the overall experience. Overall I can recommend it, but mainly for the sci-fi fans, I think the general audience would be rubbed the wrong way by the characters, setting, and ending.
Nope, that all sounds like Ninja, there's even one comment there that says "How is this news to anybody...!?" I don't think Blomkamp had any idea what he was getting into How can anybody take those guys seriously enough to offer then main roles?sounds like that rapper guy is the one of the biggest douchebags alive.... a complete ass

And still sounds like a way to deflect the guilt off Blomkamp for the bomb that Chappie turned out to be, it would be nice to believe that to feel a little more optimistic towards the new Alien movie.
I thought the "anonymous tips" sounded fishy myselfI thought this was confirmed to be untrue? If it is, I have no idea why he (Blomkamp) would even keep scenes that pretty much advertised the group (scene in slow mo with the groups name on the back of ninjas shirt). That's something that could easily be edited out. I would really hope it isn't true, because I can't stand how thing go to people's heads sometimes.
Also, jus a side note. I saw that ninja dude in an interview, and he seemed nothing even remotely hostile on any level. Maybe it was just an off day for him. Hahaha

I've seen Ninja freak out about the dumbest things on interviews in pretty funny ways, for real, how can anyone take them seriously?
I wouldn't doubt that Ninja is capable of all that, what I very much doubt is that everyone else (Blomkamp included) is either that dumb o that much of a pushover to allow Ninja to behave like that on YOUR movie.
To be that fortunate to actually be successful in one of the lamest ways is one thing, but those guys should be counting their lucky stars that they do have any fan base. It's just ridiculous to let success change you (if he did, that is). There's a lot of people with way more talent than these guys, and I'm sure would be far more thankful to make it big. I really hope it isn't true.
It's surprising that these guys are still novelty tbh, they got a couple catchy tunes and all but their days are counted, it's a matter of time before people get over their gimmick, and this is coming from a fan.
Very true, one of my favourite films made.
Crappie flopped at the US boxoffice and will make only $13 - $14 Million at the box office for the weekend.
1) District 9 = $38 Million in its opening weekend
2) Elysium = $30 Million
3) Crappie = $13 Million
