Essentially, it's a blend of Symphony of the Night with Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse. Which makes perfect sense given Alucard's presence in both those games. They drop little nuggets like how the Belmont Clan is shunned and despised because it's thought they were practitioners of black magic (which is accurate to Castlevania lore as this is the way the clan was viewed during Trevor's time as the wielder of the Vampire Killer and prior to becoming famous by killing Dracula).
Loved the introduction - which is essentially pulled from Symphony of the Night. It paints Dracula in a semi-tragic light...a man struggling with his darkness who eventually gives way to love and light only for it to be taken from him.
Trevor is gruff, he has a scar down his eye which we've seen the "Castlevania: Curse of Darkness" Trevor have. He's kind of a wanderer and a slight drunk, but once he fights, he's unbelievable. Animation is pretty fluid and the fights are easy to follow. It's not the best, but it's certainly not the worse.
Sypha's introduction is also "accurate" to the game. She was initially frozen in stone and you (as Trevor) had to kill a Cyclops boss to free her. Her gender was also ambiguous in Dracula's Curse (at first depicted as a "he") and it wasn't cleared up by Konami until later games that Sypha was actually female. Trevor comments in the series about how she had her hair cut to look like a man.
Same with Alucard. He does duel Trevor in Dracula's Curse..once again, following the video game lore. Looks accurate to the SotN game and even uses his "shadow dash" move. In the end, we see him grab his trademark coat and join the team.
If you love Castlevania, you'll like this series. I was extremely happy to hear some of the tidbits of lore mentioned above...which means they're not only following the basic premise of the story, but also some of the character history as well.
I wonder if Grant Danasty will pop up?
