I binged it like chloe on cocain

My biggest issue with this show. They want the audience to invest in the lengthy backstory of what they had to endure to get their powers in a very grueling adventure scenario meanwhile there are young adults with powers hanging around a rave club mixed in with the backstory. It sucked all the life out of their grueling struggle in 1939 when we know kids everywhere have powers without going thru that struggle making their 1939 adventure a complete waste of time and pointless. Sigh

I thought the back story stuff was a snore fest.. Could have told that same story in a single episode and it would have been fine.

I agree with your assessment but I didnt even find that the way the "earned" their powers was all that grueling.. They had to go on a boat ride, a long hike, and touch a wall... Not captivating TV if you ask me :)

I think I was projecting because when I said grueling I think I meant what you and I went thru watching this lol

Not going to lie though i?m dying to rock long white hair and a white beard.

I asked the wife she said for me to take my white utopian ass outside and get rid of the spider blocking the entrance lol

I've always thought a Halo movie would be huge, just curiosity factor alone. But that's more action-adventure.

It would've been huge. Back in 2007 or something. Peter Jackson and Blomkamp never got it off the ground back in 2006 or something, mostly over money issues with Microsoft and Fox. Eventually Blomkamp made District 9. But really, I think the time for Halo has passed. It could still be good, but it'll never be that phenomenon it could've been back in the 00s. ODST & Reach were received well by fans and the public, but after Bungie abandoned the IP and 343 went nuts with it, there's not much interest. Hell, the Master Chief Collection includes Halo 1-3, Reach, ODST & 4, but not 5. Really, you'd need that gritty, 00s Sci-Fi look, and we're past that these days. I think 09 Trek was the last to capture that "look". The lens-flare, the clean and sleek futuristic look, the swooping cam. Even by ST:ID it looked different. The Bourney Shakey Cam has lasted thus far, but it was different from that other method I mentioned before. Either way, Halo could've been the Avatar of its time, but actually riding the hype and going forward, but alas, we missed our shot. Spielberg was going to do a Showtime show, but even that was abandoned. They kickstarted it again though, and thus far all we know is that about half the cast has been racebent, their positions changed, and one of the MCs is a human girl raised by the Covenant, so, yeah... Halo's stregth as a franchise was that it had a mystical, religious aura about it. Get rid of that, and it becomes just another sci-fi FPS.

A huge generation grew up on that game. When they grow into their 30's perhaps the nostalgia factor alone will give a Halo movie the boost it needs. Many more IPs of lesser known value have had great success. Hell, Star Wars really survives on its older fanbase more than its newer ones.

I know little of Halo and never played the game, and I'm still curious about it. There must be others.

Maybe its like you said though, maybe its world-building is just not rich enough.

How do you make a Halo film when the main character never takes off his helmet. We've never seen Master Chief's face. That mystery is part of the allure, kind of like Boba Fett, before the prequels and the Mandalorian ruined the mystery. Now he's just some fat guy with scars that's a dime a dozen.

Ii could see a Dredd style film where we fallow a new protagonist/sidekick to Master Chief. We see how badass and cool he is, but we never get too close to know the disappointment that lives inside that green armor.

Like all conversions to film, some things will have to change. Look how much changed to bring Marvel comics to the MCU. Now the comics reflect the movies.

Anyway, I really don't care that much about Halo... I just thought it seemed like a well-known IP that never got made. But then, most video games have yet to be made.

Maybe that's what the 20's will be about. Maybe like the 90's making movies out of 60's television, the 20's will be video game fever. It just takes one to hit for the flood to start.

Just make The Mandalorian but with a Halo coat of paint, and without removing his helmet.

Yeah, Halo was THE defining series of the 00s I'd say, maybe alongside MGS, as they were pretty close in their years. And it can be argued Halo had more mainstream appeal, over MGS and stuff like Valve's games. The thing is, WoW was even bigger and look how that turned out. I just don't know if the climate can take a Halo movie now. Whereas Mass Effect took a more "we all have to work together and be one and sing kumbayah" approach, akin to the Utopian ideals of Star Trek, Halo was more focused on survival. It did attemt to humanize the Elites, but it was a clear take on Secular Christianity vs. fundementalist Islamism. Names like "Arbiter", "Covenant", "Halo", "John 117" weren't random. The problem is that, at the end of the day, Halo is about humanity kicking ass because **** you, we're humans, we root for ourselves. In a world were Avatar is the exact opposite, can we really get a good Halo movie? Like I said, they are making a tv show, and one of the MCs is a girl raised by the Covenant. A human girl. Right off the bat it misses the point.

Its worldbuilding and lore is rich enough for a trilogy of movies. I've not really dipped into its EU with all the books, but it has quite a bit of meat. The problem is that Bungie moved on and 343 took over, and got rid of what made Halo Halo. It was a Sci-Fi shooter that was the result of the Post-9/11 Era mixed with lots of religious symbolism and undertones. It's not by chance that the theme sounded like a Christian Choir. 343 got rid of all that and went with a very generic look and feel involving ancient aliens. Those were always there, but the original Halo truly made it all seem mysterious and genuinely ancient. Now they're just generic aliens. It's like going from Alien to Prometheus and seeing the Space Jockey be just a tall albino.

I don't think having no face is a problem. I've never had it, anyhow. With either Master Chief, Dredd or Snake Eyes. Kids want a cool looking guy to look up to and see do some wicked stuff. On paper characters like the Chief exist to immerse you in the game. And that's why there's a supporting cast, as it humanizes the MC and also lets you identify with a more human character instead of the killing machine. For the Covenant, the Spartans, and the Chief especially, are literally Demons.

A proper Halo movie could be incredibly and truly epic in every sense of the word. But I don't think current Hollywood can pull it off. Even a videogame from 20 years ago is unironically too deep these days.

I actually enjoyed it for the most part. This seemed to be doing well and they were already talking about season 2, so I gave it a go... :(

They cancel this for an animated show called Super Crooks... So, yeah, I won't be watching that.

This is exactly why I hate giving new TV shows a go. And usually don't fully watch (maybe I'll just watch the 1st episode to see if I even have any interest) until I either know they are renewed for a second season, or cancelled so I don't get too invested in the story.

Network TV is the worst. Don't create cliffhanger endings for a new show at the end of the season if its continuation is not definite. It's like building a fan base, then giving them the middle finger and expecting them to jump on board your next show... FU Netflix..

At least I have The Boys s3 & Invincible s2 to look forward too... :yess:
