Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Got my second one. All seperate shipments, weird. Also had a peg break but was easily replaced by a HT one.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Partially due to the show being off the air (at least any new stuff is) until later in the year, possibly next month? As far as repeats go, the Tennant stuff is cycled to death.

But, I am sure that when the new season kicks in, demand for this figure will not only double, but it will have a follow-on ripple back through the line.

You mean demand for Eleven? Because if anything, I think interest in Tennant stuff will decrease even more once Series 7 airs. I could be wrong. Maybe it's different for 1/6 figures, but other high end collectibles from that era don't sell well anymore, not even the cheaper CO toys.

It's hard to say. Tennant is still INCREDIBLY popular. In the US, Entertainment Weekly (in a magazine with the Doctor on the cover, which was awesome) did a poll and Tennant won by a large margin as the favorite Doctor.

Character Options do a range of 5" figures and put out a few cheap 12" figures during Tennent's time. Toys! Although the Martha figure wasn't bad!

I don't give a **** about polls. They mean nothing apart from who has more freetime and better technical knowledge for cheating. In Germany Matt seems to be more popular.

Sorry, I am being a bit dense...what are these? :dunno

Character Options make relatively cheap plastic figures and replicas, lots of people used to collect them but many stopped and/or sold their collections as much as I know.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

# 40 arrived in Canada today. I must say Matt Smith needs to work on his signature, I've seen doctors with better ones.
Overall a great piece, paint is clean, tailoring is spot on, though I was a little concerned with about handling the buttons on the sleeves, and the joints were nice and tight. I have't a spot to set him up yet, I need to clear some cabinet space.
The hands on him switch out easily, and the materials used are soft and pliable. As a first piece from a line, I'm always worried about snapping the pegs, which I don't think would be as easily replaced as hot toys, but they held up well to a few quick changes. If anything, I think it is the one place they can be improved, removeable pegs would be nice if there ever was a breakage, you could swap them out. Overall a really nice piece, and an excellent start to the collection. I need to keep an eye on QMX now as the make a 1/6 scale tardis.(just read back a few pages, and apparently you can swap with hot toys ones...I'll look at that later. sorry no pics yet, Busy schedule right now, I'll try and get some later)

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Not that we are ever likely to find out but I think one reason the price is so high is because of the licencing deal with the BBC, I have heard that the BBC really like to get their pound of flesh and then some when it comes to these deals so I think they are probably demanding such a huge chunk that that is driving the price up.

CO's 12" figures may have been inexpensive, but the quality is surprising given the year they came out and the price!

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I would be very surprised if David Tennent and Tom Baker don't outsell Matt Smith by a wide margin (assuming the quality is what it should be.)

I wonder if we should chalk the price difference between these and HT figures to doing business with a British Company rather than a Chinese one? Not that HT are low quality by any means, but wages do have a different standard in the UK.

That said, they did say they wanted to do a Rory and a River figure. I'd love to have them, but I think they'd be utter disasters at this price point.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

As I worked out earlier, sans tax, these are the same price as a regular Hot Toys figure. 125 quids is the retail . But he UK govt slaps a 20% tax on top. So BC are not doing too badly with the cost at all .

They don't charge the tax outside of the UK. That said, the figure cost me $245 delivered. Given the number of accessories, that's higher than HT would charge. I haven't seen the figure in hand yet, so maybe it's higher quality than HT, but that would be a very big deal if it were so.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Good point. The only people who can get it ex vat are outside the UK so have to pay the high postage! Swings and roundabouts I guess. I ended up paying the UK price inc tax, then double postage. So $300 in total. :slap
The HT quality would be hard to bear, but if matched, I'll be happy. Then, I will be very happy to get more Doctors.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Because of my love of certain characters I'll be happy at this price, but it may limit which characters they end up doing.

When/If Rory and River bomb at $245 we may lose any hope of Rose.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I can't see them doing river and rory. It may have been a nice idea, but even Amy is not selling out of the 250 signature editions. Interest is not so high in companions. Me, I'd be very happy to buy more Doctors. A full set if them would be cool.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

i would snap up 10 and 4 doctors even at that this price but the companions ?
i just cant see me laying out that sort of cash - i hope BC get it right as i have to say that the quality is up there and the communication (~excluding dispatch info) has been excellent

Well, I think part of the problem may be that the signature is JUST a signature. That's not very exciting for most folks.

The 4 of them would look pretty cool all posed together though....

Yes, much better just to go off anecdotal evidence or your own opinion.

Call me crazy, but I think River might have been a better seller than Amy. In her Pandorica outfit with the furry vest and laser gun, it would be a much more visually interesting figure, and she's every bit as important a character in the Doctor's life (if not more so) than Amy.
