Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!
I think the character is gone by Christmas . I'm not so sure I want a bunch of companions for any one Doctor.
I'm liking the idea that BC are going for two Doctors as there next releases .
Yeah, I agree (despite you calling me negative!) I would like to see all the Doctors and some villains, please. Some people only collect Doctors, some only collect Daleks, so they could go on putting them out pretty much forever.
I guess the CO range, particularly the classics provides a good guide as to what BC should do. There were some interesting tweets recently where Al Dewar, who runs the Who line at CO (no idea what his actual title is) said that the 70's stuff is more popular than anything else, which is why the classic range is skewed towards that decade. It's also notable that there have only been two classic companion figures, Leela and Peri (with variants) with Jo Grant and the Brigadier probably also on the way and at least prototyped.
However much people may want companions, they usually make for pretty boring action figures. Leela is the only real exception to this (and apparently they only made Peri because Al Dewar is a big fan of the sixth doctor!). The Amy signature edition is still available, which says something. I can't see any companions being made other than Leela, Rose and possibly Sarah Jane, although with both of those last two there may be problems with likeness issues (Billie Piper doesn't like action figures of her, and Lis Sladen was a nightmare to deal with when alive, so her estate might be just as bad).
As for Doctors, I really hope we get Nine next, after 4 and 10, to complete the line up of Doctors from the modern series. The only Doctor I want after that is Troughton - I would love a decent Troughton figure - and I hope they leave Colin Baker, McCoy and McGann until last. I also hope we get several Tom figures - a Season 18 figure would have to have a new HS - and LOTS of expansion packs, just as CO have made lots of Tom figures. I reckon even Weng Chiang and Deadly Assassin Time Lord robes Tom expansion packs would sell. I really hope we get some kind of Tom figure or outfit regularly.
I also hope they start making proper 1/6 Daleks soon and we see those regularly, starting with the Genesis and Dead Planet Daleks (like CO did!). As for other monsters and villains, it would be great to see BC resurrect an old Product Enterprise idea of having monster figures as 'rubber suits' over bodies. Interestingly Mattel have recently done this for a couple of their Batman 6" figures. I guess the success of this idea would depend on the quality of the rubber used and a lot of people would be wary of it, but I think it would be a lot of fun. My number one request for a monster would be the Giant Robot... well I can dream.
Down the line I'd like to see some talking figures like the old Product Enterprise Fourth Doctor 8" figure which worked really well (shame the figure had so little articulation) and hopefully K-9. And a 1/6 Tardis...
