Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I think the character is gone by Christmas . I'm not so sure I want a bunch of companions for any one Doctor.
I'm liking the idea that BC are going for two Doctors as there next releases .

It's the way to stay in business. Tom and David are the biggest sellers the license has to offer. I'm sure they need those paydays to get the business on the best footing. They're doing the right thing.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Even CO have only produced a limited set of companions, each of the 2005 and beyond companions has ad a figure (Rory in a couple of months).
For this range tho, I think it would be easier to sell a quality villain like a Delgado Master, than any companion.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I am sure that no one is going to begrudge these folks having an actual Bank-Holiday weekend off are they? :wink1:

Oh, no. But I had emailed them 3 times previously for various reasons and only heard back once. No worries though, they got back to me and promise to send a cube!

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I figured they'd get back sooner rather than later. For what it's worth, my cube is in the box. I'm going to put all the bits on the display stand once I get a couple f those ikea cabinets.

Detolf!

Yeah, they're overworked, but I have faith in these guys.

Yup the detolfs.
I bet that someone is packing your cube now, and throwing in something extra in way of compensation.

Yeah, I agree (despite you calling me negative!) I would like to see all the Doctors and some villains, please. Some people only collect Doctors, some only collect Daleks, so they could go on putting them out pretty much forever.

I guess the CO range, particularly the classics provides a good guide as to what BC should do. There were some interesting tweets recently where Al Dewar, who runs the Who line at CO (no idea what his actual title is) said that the 70's stuff is more popular than anything else, which is why the classic range is skewed towards that decade. It's also notable that there have only been two classic companion figures, Leela and Peri (with variants) with Jo Grant and the Brigadier probably also on the way and at least prototyped.

However much people may want companions, they usually make for pretty boring action figures. Leela is the only real exception to this (and apparently they only made Peri because Al Dewar is a big fan of the sixth doctor!). The Amy signature edition is still available, which says something. I can't see any companions being made other than Leela, Rose and possibly Sarah Jane, although with both of those last two there may be problems with likeness issues (Billie Piper doesn't like action figures of her, and Lis Sladen was a nightmare to deal with when alive, so her estate might be just as bad).

As for Doctors, I really hope we get Nine next, after 4 and 10, to complete the line up of Doctors from the modern series. The only Doctor I want after that is Troughton - I would love a decent Troughton figure - and I hope they leave Colin Baker, McCoy and McGann until last. I also hope we get several Tom figures - a Season 18 figure would have to have a new HS - and LOTS of expansion packs, just as CO have made lots of Tom figures. I reckon even Weng Chiang and Deadly Assassin Time Lord robes Tom expansion packs would sell. I really hope we get some kind of Tom figure or outfit regularly.

I also hope they start making proper 1/6 Daleks soon and we see those regularly, starting with the Genesis and Dead Planet Daleks (like CO did!). As for other monsters and villains, it would be great to see BC resurrect an old Product Enterprise idea of having monster figures as 'rubber suits' over bodies. Interestingly Mattel have recently done this for a couple of their Batman 6" figures. I guess the success of this idea would depend on the quality of the rubber used and a lot of people would be wary of it, but I think it would be a lot of fun. My number one request for a monster would be the Giant Robot... well I can dream.

Down the line I'd like to see some talking figures like the old Product Enterprise Fourth Doctor 8" figure which worked really well (shame the figure had so little articulation) and hopefully K-9. And a 1/6 Tardis...

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I can't think of anything I want more than a 1:6 display of ALL the Doctors.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

So win is Amy out. :naughty

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

A Doctor without a companion is like a day without sunshine and wine. Survivable, but not particularly enjoyable!

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Haha.. Captain Britain, I was really thinking of all the negative points all over that I was reading. And its been that kind of day yesterday at work, everyone moaning about something, but, everything was so small, but blowing out of proportion and overshadowing all the good stuff that was going on !! I really think that nothing can be perfect, so Im totally thrilled with this figure. Like Pixletwin, I can't wait to have al the Doctors in this form, along with varients thru the expansion packs. Amy is scheduled but delayed. I'm sure it will be out as soon as possible. Till then, it's the Doctor who's waiting.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Well, from a display perspective there are two ultimate ways to go:

#1: ALL the doctors
#2: One Doctor and all his companions.

That's why Amy, Rory, and even River could be pretty awesome. It will be a long time before we have ALL the doctors. Years!

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Initially I did say I prefer the billyb sculpt, but I have begun to appreciate bc's sculpt, I just don't like the shorter hair or the pupil placement that much, I really hope they offer that stetson sculpt unpainted so I can have it painted to my liking.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

You could have it painted to your liking either way, no?

Well by that I meant choice of painter.

I'd actually like a full skiman paintjob along with my choice of eye position, and I couldn't justify having him repaint an already painted head so that is why I'd like to see them offer them unpainted.

He doesn't paint over them. He removes the paint first. :lol

Jesus I know that!:dunno I don't think I'm getting my point across very well!:lol:slap I meant that I wouldn't like to have him undo there work after me paying for it in the first place.. I'd feel better sending off an unpainted sculpt to have it painted by my choice of painter.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Mine just arrived, got number 119 :)

I'm really impressed by the packaging. I like the copper writing on the dark box.

Anyone notice that the backstory on the box says Amy Pond and her husband Rory Pond? :lol
