Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

It's not saying 'poor me' It's stating what goes on. Who has always attracted a much younger age group which just don't have that kind of disposable income which doesn't help.

Agreed.

If you look at the merchandise since the revival, the vast majority has been mass market products aimed at kids and what stuff there has been for older fans ( Weta statues, a few prop replicas ) has hardly set the market on fire.

There's nothing like the same culture of buying high end products as there is with a merchandising monster like Star Wars and I think getting Who fans used to the idea of such expensive products after years of cheaper stuff is a tricky prospect.

I hope so. I have to say most fans I know who collect only buy items from shows they love, rather then something they're 'meh' about but looks cool.

I could do that If toys were cheap, but with todays prices, dear god no.

God yes. You really can't compare a huge franchise such as that to wee oldy Who. They're two very different things for all sorts of reasons.

Even if money wasn't an issue, I'd only buy stuff I liked, Big Chief could make the most photorealistic figures of the 5th or 10th Doctors that current technology allows and I still wouldn't want them soiling my shelves as buying characters I don't like is not something I usually do....I only ended up with 5 CO Davison's as I wanted other figures they came with or the Build A Figure part that the first one came with.

George Lucas can boost his new chin fund by making money off lightsaber shaped chopsticks....BBC Worldwide haven't yet built the "brand" to the point where literally anything with the Who logo on it will sell.....that said they get enough people to watch the TV show so maybe it's just a matter of time :lol

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

The good thing about 1:6 collectors (and I am hoping this will manifest in BC's DocWho line) is they don't necessarily collect what they like as they collect what looks really impressive. I have every faith that BC is putting together a line to really impress the socks off of everyone, fan or not.

That's the key - I don't know how often I've bought a 1/6 scale figure just because of how impressive it was even if I only had a mildly passing interest in the franchise. That's the only way you'd get me to buy a Doctor 1-3 - if they were truly spectacular.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

3-4 and the present Matt Smith are my faves. I grew up with 3+4 so they will always be the 'true Doctors' to me, but I'm liking Matt Smiths portrayal a lot, and the new series are infinitely better than RTD's stuff IMHO.

:exactly:

I love all the Docs except 6 and 9. If they do make the first two, while I would like them in colour I'd also like b+w versions, similar to how SS done the Universal Monsters.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I rewatched some of the the series 5 stories yesterday and I liked them even more than I did last year. I am really looking forward to the first wave.

Whether you liked him or not, 6 would really make an impressive figure.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I liked all the Doc's although I have to say Colin and Peter were my least favorite really.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Although Smith can be good given the right material he's still getting by with his Troughton & Tennant-isms and hasn't developed any unique characteristics of his own.

Not that I blame him for that as most of his stories have either been written with Tennant's Doctor still firmly in the writer's head or have been the sort of self indulgent drivel that Moffat excels at.

Neil Gaiman is the only writer to capture the magic of the best Classic stories and it's too bad the BBC can't afford to hire him on a permanent basis because "The Doctor's Wife" blew everything else from the entire revival away.

BigChief,
Make Idris instead of River!

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

As far as Doctor Who fandom being tight-fisted, I rather always saw it that Who fans just tended to be on the poorer side for whatever reason (as in a Classic episodes budget) so had to watch their money. I know that's my category so maybe I'm being kind! :)

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I am with the wookster (being of a certain age) and 3 & 4 are definites along with 10 & 11. Give me Sarah Jane , Rose Tyler, Amy Pond and whatever Catherine Tate's character was called and I will buy them all.
And yes i am fortunately old enough and wealthy enough to not worry about cost, but even I will be choosey. It's about favourites etc.
If I get ALL the figures I want I will be delirious.

On making Idris over River- a thousand times yes! "The Doctor's Wife" is by far the best of the new series. I say give Mr. Gaiman the show already.

Catherine Tate= Donna Noble. :D I'd love to see her in 1/6th along with the others you named.

Except Rose. Rose and River are, unfortunately, two characters I care nothing about. :(

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

If I had to pick one companion to get, it would be Donna. In my opinion, she had the most character, stood up for herself, wasn't completely gaga over The Doctor, and taught him a thing or two.
