Where companions are concerned there is only one,

Seconded. Leela's my fave companion as well. Sarah Jane and The Brig run a close second.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

thamesvalidude,
Nothing wrong with a bit of sleazy Sid James style laughter! :lol

Even if you put the obvious visual appeal of Leela to one side the character was pretty unique as although she was naive about the wider universe she wasn't stupid and certainly didn't think twice about taking the fight to the opposition instead of waiting to be rescued.

The modern idea of a companion with "attitude" is Donna who was nothing more than a stereotypical mouthy b***h, there was no real fire there and in real life she'd just get laughed at.

Leela on the other hand didn't mess about eg,

"Be silent or I will fillet you!"

"Do as the Doctor says or I will cut out your heart!"

Killer looks and an attitude to match :)

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Are we talking about "best" companions, or "hottest" companions? Two completely different things in my opinion.

If you read my last post properly you will see I made a point of enphasising that Leela was a great character in every aspect....she was very easy on the eye and also entertaining from the perspective of how her character dealt with the situations she found herself in during her travels with the Doctor.

The only real bad thing about her run was that she got a lame ending and didn't get to go out in a blaze of glory saving the Doctor's life.

Donna by comparison had nothing to offer but the ability to make some viewers consider putting their foot through the TV screen because she was so irritating and she's down there with Rose on my list of worst companions ever with the Pond creature not too far behind them.

Unless Billie Piper changes her mind regarding the use of her likeness a Rose figure is unlikely to be made by Big Chief so it would be intresting to see how they'd approach a Donna Noble sculpt, maybe they could succeed where CO failed and sculpt her most popular facial expression....with her mouth hanging open like a hungry bulldog :lol

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

"Eliza Doolittle in space" was a brilliant idea by the production team.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I personally think some people should be more respectful to what others like and whatnot.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

It's all just opinions. Don't bug me none.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Doesn't bug me as long as it's not constant bashing.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Yeah. He rubs some people that way. Just put him on ignore.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

damn BCM u really dislike everything Who past Tom huh.

Wrong.

Davison was mostly dull but even he had 2 good stories ( "Earthshock" & "The Caves of Androzani" )

I also like Colin's Doctor even though most of his stories were mediocre and think Sylvester McCoy was excellent when paired with Ace especially in their last series.

I also think that Christopher Eccleston could have been the best Doctor ever had he been given the chance but he was reduced to sidekick status for most of his run which wasn't his fault.

Matt Smith can also be good but is let down by a poor supporting cast and only gets good material when a guest writer is brought in.

The only 2 Doctors I consider completely without redeeming qualities are 8 & 10.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I like Davidson,he fit that kind of storyline era.

6 was good and 7 was doomed before he even started. I think with time he would have been pretty great.

8th I agree.that was bad

9th is a shame.I wish we knew the real reason Chris left after one season.

Disagree with you on 10th.yea some of the stories were cheesy but its not all bad.

now 11th.when he started i loved the first episode but its gone downhill since then.

As for companions, I love Sarah Jane,Jo & Ian & Barbra. I also liked Rose and I tolerated Donna for what she was.Had no time for Martha. those love sick puppy looks drove me nuts

My deepest wish was if they had managed to film a 11 doctor reunion if they were all alive.like a Time War movie where all the incarnations came together.that would have been great.only my opinion off cus

I wouldn't be surprised if Donna's supporters are nearly all female. I say that because I've known girls like her and even felt like her at times.
Her mouth and attitude are overcompensation for what she knows she lacks and is a defensive mechanism. Donna isn't stupid- she knows she's not the prettiest or the smartest or the bravest or the most talented. That's why she was desperate to get married- being able to say someone loves her enough to marry her means she's worth something. However, when Lance said all those nasty things she didn't argue back- mostly likely because he was giving voice to what she thought about herself. Then she gets one moment to be important and it's essentially taken away from her since it would kill her to remember it.

Back on topic, even though I wouldn't go for a Rose figure I do hope something gets worked out with the likeness issue so her fans can get her character. Also hope the same for the SJS fans. :wink1:

The sad thing about the CO head sculpts is that there is actually a decent likeness there it's just buried under layers of thick paint. How do I know this? Let's just say I have a compulsive disorder to dismantle my toys, strip them, redo them, and then put them back together.:monkey3

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Those of you who despise 8 have never listened to the audios. A+ Doctor Who which is why he is my second favorite behind Tom.

+1. He is a great Doctor in my opinion. I've listened to his audiobooks, read his comics and watched the movie a million times and I love him a lot. No ****. (Well. Maybe a little. :lol)

To be honest I never got past all the shouting! :lol

With hindsight I should have stuck to my initial reaction to the news of her return which was "I won't watch that series" as that way my opinion of the RTD era may not have ended up being what it is.

I think CO's production paint apps are usually pretty good but not perfect....the Leela sculpt is killed by the paint apps and their habit of repeatedly painting their 4th Doctor figures with thick black eyebrows is annoying and a few of his scarves have had sloppily painted stripes as well.

The standard excuse is that they're not collector pieces but the Classic line is only available via specialist stores so I call BS on that.

One benefit of a high end line such as Big Chief's is that more attention to things like paint apps will be paid....the proto of 11 looks great so hopefully the final production pieces will be comparable.
