Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I see these pack as supplements to the base figure. You get the one figure and the packs, and then you can mix and match for variety of display. If you want every version of the Doctor on display at once, then yeah, full variant figures would probably be less hassle.

Less hassle, but more expensive and anyway they might make one variant figure they'd never make five or six.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Big Chief would lose money and have too many of each if they make variations. Everybody has his own favorite outfit. If they'd make 3 variations, based on the packs we have right now, they'd sell.. 50% of the regular and the 25% of each variation. They need to make 100% of each, because nobody can predict which would sell more. If they make less of Cowboy Doctor and he seems most popular and they can't fill the demand, there'll be too many regular laying around collecting dust. If you need a specific variation, buy the regular and the packs, take what you need, sell what's useless.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I'm not entirely sure we can even say much about which is more affordable until we know the cost of the expansions. But I do think this both provides the most flexibility for the budget of the consumer and makes the most sense financially for Big Chief. If people are wanting to make 3 Doctor variants and the Ganger Doc, I'm assuming they aren't going to be worrying about cost that much!

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Expansion packs are far better than expensive variants. BC were smart to part things out in such a way as to maximize their profit. I like it. I hope they do this with all the Doctors.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Shouldn't this be in the Aliens & Robots section? After all, the Doctor is an alien :dunno

I think we're about 6-7 months too late to bring that up though at this point. :)

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

That would be the most unprofessional thing ever. Imagine if you had to buy a car bit by bit. Might aswell sell it as a kit.

I disagree, I think that is actually a pretty cool idea, it sounds like a lot less hassle and you won't end up with left overs that you may have difficulty selling, but from a business standpoint I believe Big chief know what there doing, they will probably make more money the way there doing it now.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I like my figure to be ready for display when I give them my money. I don't want to assemble the whole damn thing. Expansion packs is different, because it's just a kitbash. The parts are useful for dioramas and photography. But I want my figure to be ready for display right out of the box. I really don't want this turning into another HT Iron Man situation.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Man, I don't get that. I look forward to futzing and kit bashing. It's my favorite part of the hobby, as I think it is for most 1:6 collectors.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Huh? That's exactly my point. I want to receive a figure ready to display and not have to put it together myself or even wait for the release of a certain pack that I'd need to complete a particular figure.

If you order a bear together with clothing you receive it fully dressed. If you order a complete figure you would receive it ready to display with the clothing you've chosen.

I don't really think a company is gonna keep themselves busy building each and every figure specifically to order. Things would get mixed up easily at the factory. A bear that's a shirt and trousers, as to which a 1/6th is much more complex. And thus, it'd come seperate. No fancy packaging or anything. :dunno

And I think calling that kind of collectors "lazy" is uncalled for. I futz, mess about for my pose of choice and put it in the detolf.

I do agree with this, the idea of a personalized figure is very cool(and I commend you for the idea Liz!) but in the real world It probably wouldn't work.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

And then you'd have to add the cost of assembly. A personalized figure is quite expensive and look at the prices as they are.

Thus, I prefer extra packs. Counting on other costumizable figures, it would be 50 quid more. If each pack costs 25 quid (a total of 50 for accessories and outfit), you'd get much more for your money.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I've bought quality heads for lower than 50. :dunno Depends who you buy from.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

i like the pack idea but thats probably my star wars head talking......

with the Dr i cant see me buying more that one of any Dr.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Will you be at the Olympia Toyfair this weekend Big Chief?

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

personally I think the extra sets are great. I wouldn't want a bunch of Doctor dolls, it would be too much money and take up too much space. I much better like having some extra accessories so I can change his outfit/etc, to a particular look as I like.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Liz10 hates expansion pack idea. We get it.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

It'd be good if the heads were offered separately and complete outfits in a pack. The way it is now some people would have to buy a certain pack with 5 items of which they only need 1 or 2.

I'm not surprised this is how there doing it, there a company trying to please there fans yes, but they are also trying to be as profitable as they can, companies like this do this all the time! Look at the t1000 Sarah conner for example or the v1 joker and Bankrobber.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Stick me in the group that likes the idea of the of the packs because I'm incapable of leaving well enough. If the in-hand product holds up to the quality and accuracy of what we've seen so far then this would be right up my alley and save me a lot of time and frustration (you'd understand if you had any idea what I'm currently working on :lol). I'm also one who doesn't want a bunch of the same figure taking up space on my shelves but I like the idea of having options.

Am I the only one who thinks that online dealers, specifically on ebay, would buy up the expansion packs in order to part them out? Can't imagine that not happening.
