Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!
seems to me like BC is trying to do something awesome for the fans, provide customization stuff for their Doctor figure without the fans having to out and find or make the pieces themselves...
and doing it in a way that BC can support, if you recall the limited figures didn't sell out right away (are they still not sold out?) If BC offered 4 variant full figures (i.e., body, head and all the parts, etc..) it's unlikely that they'd get enough buyers to support that. This way they can offer the parts that buyers want in a way thats more affordable for everyone. I'm actually pleasantly surprised that they're offering these expansion packs when they could be moving on to the next figure (like the Tenth Doctor, which is likely to sell really well). It seems to me like they're really trying to make something nice for big fans of Doctor Who who want all the outfits, etc.
I gotta say... I know I'm a newb around here, but I dislike the term "toy" being used in a derogatory way... why do we have to put labels on them and make it seem like somehow playing with our "toys" is bad? I think we're all mostly adults here, right? I'm not ashamed of playing with toys. If someone makes an AWESOME toy, even if it's supposedly for kids, I'm going to buy it. you know what's great about being an adult? You have a paycheck and you can spend it on "toys" instead of whatever else you want, cause it's your paycheck. and how is this Doctor figure somehow a "kids toy" or a "cheap toy" or something like that at the quality level we're looking at? just because maybe you might have the option to switch out the head, braces or the coat...? Seems like that makes it way more awesome and higher value to me, not lower value...
But then I work in animation where almost every adult at the studio, including the directors and producers have "toys" lining their desks and they aren't ashamed of them.
and while I do worry about wear and tear on my toys, dolls and figures, I like when we have the option to change their clothes if we WANT to.
but then, I also like asian ball-jointed dolls like "Super Dollfie" were you remove and change out their eyes, change their wigs and change their clothes. You can even sand down their bodies, recarve them and switch out ALL their parts.
but that's me, and everyone likes their "figures" and their "play" or whatever you want to call it in different ways.
