I understand this figure is expensive, but this is a property whose popularity is easy to overestimate since those who like it are so passionate about it.
Big Chief is probably charging what a new company starting from scratch has to in order to get a premium 1:6 product to market at present. In fact if they are like most businesses, they are probably losing money on these initial offerings (meaning sales will not cover initial expenses).
They should be congratulated for making this figure a reality with minimal issues and, despite the delays, within a respectable time frame. That bodes very well for future success.

I don't think there's a right or wrong way to display it, your way looks good [laying flat] and I've seen it in photos upright [on it's edge] I may just blu-tack it to the frame, so I can change it if I want to.

I don't agree on the overpricing bit as the Doc is worth every penny, but I do agree that they are one set. I am desperate to know when Amy will be hitting my shelf.

I wouldn't be so sure about that...general interest in Tennant era related collectibles seems to have faded significantly.

Lots of Tennant stuff on ebay and forums that nobody wants, unless it's ridiculously cheap. People (including me) who sold their stuff lost lots of money and people that are still trying to sell just don't get rid of it.

Partially due to the show being off the air (at least any new stuff is) until later in the year, possibly next month? As far as repeats go, the Tennant stuff is cycled to death.
But, I am sure that when the new season kicks in, demand for this figure will not only double, but it will have a follow-on ripple back through the line.

Hmmm I am not sure that is a reliable measuring stick you're using. But I guess it's neither here nor there really. Tennant will be next and it will be interesting to see how he fares.

there's more than just a comparison to existing figure prices to consider though, I know it's easy to go down that route, but
(a) BC is a new company. I'm guessing they are probably smaller than HT or Sideshow, too. HT is relatively established,... comparing the price they are able to set for X-detailed figure isn't necessarily entirely fair. Making items requires a lot of cost, and it probably will take them a while (as we've seen) to wrinkle out factory/supply issues, too.
(b) exchange rate between USA and UK is baaaaaad. (I mean shoot, exchange rate between US and lots of other countries like say, Japan, are really bad. There are items I used to buy from Japan for about $200. Now, due to the exchange rate they are $300. They aren't more expensive in Japan, they're the same price. But I can't afford to buy them now due to the bad rate.
I'd love to see anything I want to buy be cheaper, but I hope people will be patient with BC as like many have said, it is REALLY AWESOME that someone is doing a really high quality HT or Sideshow-like quality figure of this type with DOCTOR WHO and it looks like they're going to try to do more Doctors, too. I mean, I was just ecstatic when I saw the first pics of the 11th doctor they did as I think many of you were, and people getting their figures in hand are confirming that they look great, great quality...
I cannot WAIT to see the 10th doctor. I really hope he's as much as a dead ringer as the 11th doctor they did was.
and I'm still hoping for a Rose Tyler. If they did those two, and they looked great (which they probably would) despite whatever I've got going on, I'd figure out a way to save up for them.

As much as I'd like an official 1:6 figure of Tom, I would only buy a Big Chief figure of him if the quality was comparable with a Hot Toys figure of a similar price.

I think the problem here is there's a difference between how much a company needs to charge to make money and how much the majority of buyers are actually willing to pay sometimes. I think the 11th Doctor is worth the money to me. But clearly not everyone feels the same way. And BC might get into trouble if too many people don't think it's worth it. But, to be honest, I think the 11th Doctor will be okay. It's more Amy and pretty much any other non-Doctor figure I worry about, though I still want them to be made! It'll be interesting to see.
