New License at SDCC!

No one has actually started a thread on this that I could find, but the new poll covers a new license that will preview at SDCC! The choices are...

Conan
Ghostbusters
More Video Games
Disney
The Godfather
Jurassic Park
The Fly
Mr. Rogers


I think I agree with screamingmetal that it might be The Godfather because of other companies getting licenses as well, but I'm really hoping for Ghostbusters or The Fly!!! :chew

Ghostbusters has been talked about and they have always told us that the actor likenesses were not available. If that has changed then I can see some folks getting excited about it.

I personally think that considering the past history with Stan Winston, a Jurassic Park line is a no brainer for Sideshow, so that's my guess. I just that there is an initial product revealed along with the license announcement so that I can see it in person two weeks from today.

Of course, those other possibilities might just be intended to throw us off from the real deal--a Mr. Rogers 1/4 scale figure!!

Conan (Awesome PF possibilities but virtually no 1/6 chances with so much exposed....)

Ghostbusters (Is this an actual possibility? Aren't likeness issues really stopping this? I'm sure its a "play" with fan especially with all the Ghostbusters custom buzz going on...)

More Video Games (Huh.....remember Warcraft? No, me either....)

Disney (This would be an interesting license, of course I don't think it'd sell well unless this is a clever rouse for announcing a POTC line.....maybe Tron? Hey National Treasure was a Disney film...)

The Godfather (This would be cool and they can do a good Pacino....)

Jurassic Park (Since the main things are the Dinos I'm skeptical here)

The Fly (Great horror Addition)

Mr. Rogers (This one has my vote....)


Honestly? If these are actual choices I'm betting on "The Fly".

Oh man, I am really hoping it's either Conan or Ghostbusters!!

It can't be Disney Master Replicas has that license, video games would be cool, The Fly?...Meh and I think if there was to be anything Mr. Rogers it should be done by Electric Tiki as a 'Tooned Up' Maquette.

It can't be Disney Master Replicas has that license

Not to stir the pot up but Disney double books and triple books their licenses. The Rocketeer Helmet has been done twice, the Jack Sparrow sword has been done twice.....A Black Pearl was done before MR came out with their SS although a lot of things from the list waaaaay back at TF haven't happened....

Disney although unlikely is still a possibility. Also MR doesn't have a comprehensive license, they have license specific agreements...

Good point, maybe it will be Pirates of the Carribbean, I would love to see SSC's takes on Classic Disney characters though.

I would kill for some kickass Conan Merchandise... and of course would love to see him in 1/6 (Ahnold version of course). Ghostbusters would be a close second. But I can't imagine either of those really happening

Godfather really seems the most likely, whereas I'm not thrilled about it I'd still by a 1/6 Brando w/o a second thought.

I would love a 1/4 Brando as the Godfather as I'll never be able to afford the Cinemaquette. Also a 1/6 line would be awesome as we could get some great likenesses of some of the best actors ever (Brando, De Niro, Pacino, Duvall). I say bring them on!

In all honesty...the DISNEY license has the most potential depth. If they were to get a license for all disney properties...the line could very well be endless. POTC is only the tip of the iceberg. Here are some others:

ALL of the Disney characters (Mickey, Donald, etc.)
ALL of the movie characters (Princesses, etc.)
All of the TV Show characters

Assuming that Mr. Rogers is a joke (there had to be one joke in the group), the list leaves some interesting possibilities. Remember, they said "At least one" would be announced, so I'm betting that there are more than one from that list coming up.

We've already got a good 12" fly, albeit from Return rather than the original, so I wouldn't be too excited about it although I'd buy. It could easily be one of three to be announced though, somthing cool to make the old monster fans happy.

"More Video Games" is awfully open ended, and I'm betting it's one of the announcements. Probably not sixth scale though, but something like the WoW deal. I'll pass.

There's also only about a billion possibilities with "Disney". But I'm betting against this one.

Godfather would make a good line up, like Scarface, for a handful of figures. It's another good possibility, although it's another one I'd pass on.

Jurassic Park would be fantastic if they could do a dinosaur, but what's the odds of that? Otherwise, there's really no point. This is the only one I'm actually hoping against, because without the dinos, it's a bad idea.

Ghostbusters is the one I'd be most happy with, and while you could really only do a handful of characters, I think they'd sell well and look great.

That leaves Conan, which of the actual named properties (Disney and More Video Games are a bit too generic to know) has the most character potential. But we'd have to get a new superbuff body for the majority of the line, which would be great, but not necessarily likely.

So what I'd WANT - Ghostbusters. What I think it's going to be - The Godfather, and perhaps something that falls under the 'video games' banner.

BTW, anyone think that perhaps with the relationship between Sideshow and Newline Cinema that they have been talking about doing Golden Compass figures? Of course the issues are that the main character is a little girl (new body) and the most visually interesting characters in the book are polar bears.

I would LOVE to see Ghostbusters, but there's always been rumors about the actors not wanting to license their likenesses, especially Bill Murray. Hopefully that's changed. I LOVE the idea having all 4 PF Ghostbusters standing together in my collection.

I'd also like to see a PF Conan, but only from the movie (Arnold).

Jurassic Park - I liked the movie, but I'm not sure I want statues of dinos.

The Fly - A PF BrundleFly could be cool, depending on how it's done.

As for the rest of them... no thanks.

JURASSIC PARK!

Think about it, Sideshow already works with Stan Winston Studios.

They could have everything from T-Rex and Raptor maquettes to prop replicas like a raptor claw or mosquito in amber.

PLENTY of possibilities with Jurassic Park.

I just hope they release a nice, big T-Rex maquette. I don't care what it costs.
