These are 2 disc editions but will include the normal and extended cut and extra documentaries? Unless these are HD-DVDs or BR discs the quality will suck then...... or is it just a hoax?

I believe that "via seemless branching" statement means that the extended cut will be the same movie playing as the regular cut, but it will seemlessly insert the extra scenes where they should be when the extended cut is being viewed. if that makes sense

.. and I really wish somebody would make a law against double-dippin on the DVDs. corporate monsters milking the fans for every penny they have

That's how I'm reading it as well. At first I thought they meant both the TE and EE were going to be in this new release but given that these are not the Blue Ray or HD DVD (at least it's not mentioned that they are) there's no way you could have a two disc set with a 300 minute doc. and both those versions of the film.

I think all we're getting is the EE in essence (without all the extra bonus stuff) with deleted scenes perhaps and this new doc. with it.

On second (or fifth really) read of the article I see no mention of deleted scenes being included. Soooooo seems to me it's just going to be the EE versions (which are the theatrical with those added scenes...though ROTK did change one scene around from the theatrical...stupid Gandalf hacking up a lung scene).

I like the idea of new extras, but I will wait for more info.

Now we can watch the entire extended cut on one disc!? UGH!

If it's released under the current DVD discs (not Blue Ray or HD DVD) you'll have to flip the disc over I bet in order to fit the entire EE on one disc. So yes it's on one disc but you'll have to get up and flip it.

Maybe this version will have the scene where Han shots first. No, wait. That's another movie.

I'll more than likely wait until the HD or Blu-ray versions come out.

I just want the version will the car is restored in FOTR. :lol

Or maybe a TT version where the barrels in back of Frodo and Sam suddenly DON'T disappear.

Or a ROTK with smoke not flowing into a chimney in Edoras.

And on and on and on.

:rotfl

Don't forget Eomer's disappearing sword, that is still in there. :monkey3

I watch the appendices almost as much as the movies, so I'm game for more behind-the-scenes stuff.

I am confused though. The extended cuts aren't simply the theatrical cuts with a bunch of deleted scenes thrown in, it's a full-on re-edit. Seemless branching is not going to work here.

You missed the child double for Pippin at Minas Tirith when they bring back Faramir!!!

However, I really dunno about this?!?!? It's gonna depend a great deal on the quality of the output. I'm also a bit baffled by the 300 minute documentary :confused: Is that over the three boxes, on one disk, or wot :rolleyes::confused:

Need more information!!!

TC

These could always be dual-layer, double-sided discs, so getting the EE on one disc wouldn't be that difficult. Of course, it wouldn't look as good as say, John Carpenter's The Thing which used a dual-layer, double-sided disc to use the lowest compression possible to get the best picture possible! :D

Pffff....great! Let the milking begin!! Soon we will have a new George Lucas wannabe, squirting out different editions every few months or so. I SO hate these movie companies for sucking us dry :emperor

I'll just have to see if I get these or not. Would be nice to have the extended edition on 1 disc, so I dont have to get up and change discs anymore when I watch the movie.
....wait....that might just be a good idea for you movie companies out there! Bring out a DVD with all 3 movies cut into 1 movie! And then bring out another disc, cutting that 1 movie into 2 movies! And then put out a super duper edition with an extra interview session 10 years after the movie had been shot to see how the actors feel about themselves now... :emperor
