....wait....that might just be a good idea for you movie companies out there! Bring out a DVD with all 3 movies cut into 1 movie! And then bring out another disc, cutting that 1 movie into 2 movies! And then put out a super duper edition with an extra interview session 10 years after the movie had been shot to see how the actors feel about themselves now... :emperor

Do you know when these are going to be available, I'd like to buy them. :duh

Hey Fritz, it was stated in the article that it will be available from the 29th August. :) real soon just about 2 months more...

TC, you're right, the 300 minutes documentary is the total for all 3 sets.

On the bright side they are releasing all 3 together instead of spacing them out. That should mean there will be no yet another trilogy edition with all exact same 3 sets in some slipcase...etc or else there we go again. But I'm pretty sure whoever wants to get this will get all 3 isn't it? Just doesn't make any sense to just buy 1 or 2 of the 3. So why are they selling separately instead of bundling up in a set?

Now i understand the 'seemless branching' thing. It lets viewer choose to watch the movie release or the extended one. If they choose the latter then the extended cuts will be added in 'seemlessly'. Which brings to me another question. Why would one want to watch the normal release if there's the extended edition to view?

Sounds just like some marketing trick. Fooling unsuspecting customers into thinking that there are actually 2 movies in 1 disc. Whether they are puzzled how that is possible to squeeze in 1 disc is another matter.

They should just release the dvd of the documentary. :monkey1

Sadly, I doubt very much it'll be available on its own  Which means I MAY haveta buy all 3 boxes. We'll see :confused:

Yes sadly true... that is the selling point of these new LE dvds. Else nobody much would buy these, the extended editions sets are better.

"It gives us the chance to refresh the franchise," Lasorsa said.

That's French for "Pay up, suckers!!"

And I have a feeling that we will be in for some more "refreshment" next year on Blu-Ray or HD-DVD...

Well, at least they aren't giving us the original theatrical releases in non-anamorphic widescreen, like that other franchise...

I was just watching the appendicies for FOTR and they said that they had 4.5 hours of movie for FOTR. The extended version is only 3.5 hours so there is hope that there may yet be an extended extended version, maybe when the HD versions are released.

The first cut for Return was over SIX hours long I seem to recall :monkey5 Bad news is, that I'm sure PJ said any future releases would only include deleted scenes, so they won't be making any new new cuts:sick:sick

Still no sign of the infamous bloopers, and I've never managed to see French & Saunders' spoof, which I think may have been an Easter egg on the R1 Fellowship EE.

In conclusion, there's still lots of stuff out there for New Line to release

It just sucks that the scouring of the Shire wasn't even filmed. That's always been my favorite chapter in all the books.

I've got all 3 regular, and all 3 extended versions, so I won't get these.
I've not even gotten to go through all the extras on those DVD sets yet,
so this would be wasted money for me - money that could be spent on
more busts and statues with Sideshow. :monkey5 :lol

JS :)

I just hope they put the new versions on Netflix so I can watch the bonus material without having to purchase these. My DVD buying is going to be curtailed until HDDVD's start coming out regulary.

Just found a better photo of the new dvd set:

Mine has been cut drastically too. I want to see these doc's, but the Blu-ray/HD-DVD will probably have this and boatloads more on it.

Does anybody know exactly when the HD-DVD upgrade drive for the XBOX 360 is supposed to come out? I am anxious to try it...

Right there with you. This will most likely serve as my first HD DVD player. At E3 they said it'd be around by the holidays but no firm date. It's supposed to cost about $200 which is pretty good compared to what HD DVD players are going for. If you do find out, please let me know.

I'll rent for the docs. Then I might purchase used.

What excites me about this release is that it'll put LOTR back in the public consciousness, perhaps enough to justify releasing those Complete Soundtracks for TTT and ROTK!!!:D

According to Doug Adams a release date for the TTT Complete Recordings has been set, just not announced yet.
