New Show to Resemble Firefly?

Honestly, I think there's more going on with River. We never actually found out what they were doing at the Academy other than brain surgery, we don't know what their purpose was. Plus, there are other people besides River that were in the Academy, what about them?

As far as River as pilot--remember that it wasn't the knowledge of Miranda that made her act crazy, it was that parts of her brain were removed. I don't think I'd want a crazy person as pilot.

I agree there is still some exposition to play out with River and the Academy, but I don't see basing the plot of a second film on River again since that focused so heavily in the first film and seemed to have been pretty neatly wrapped in the end. I think at some point had Firefly continued you would have seen River become a relatively functional crew member otherwise you're basically limited in story telling to "River's acting crazy again..." plots involving her character. You can still keep that edge to the character but make her functional and it frees the plot to focus on Mal.

If we're not careful a second Serenity film could be ALL exposition, then we'd be bored out of our minds! But I still want more. I love the series, I love the movie, and I have the comics and haven't read them, my bad. But I know there is definitely more that could be touched on. Especially with River. I could watch that girl fight any day!

Thats why I'm sorta ok with the way they ended Book's story, the mystery, which was pretty much his whole angle, is still there. So he's still an interesting character. I just loved that last line to Mal when told he needs to share his story, "No I don't." Simple as that.

If they did another film I wouldn't mind exposition on him, but its not necessary at all.

Really as I said the only character I think needs a fuller fleshing out is Mal and that includes much more of Inara and Zoe by extension.

I feel bad for Simon and Kaylee and even Jayne and Wash because as much as I love them (simon least) I think I'm pretty cozy with them always being 2nd tier characters.

I don't see it going too well but I also don't see firefly being ressurected in series form again. too much time has passed and many have moved on to other things. I would love another feature film tho. :D

Agreed, another film would be best.

And Prog, I know 'some' exposition is necessary but not too much where it feels like I'm sitting in front of the latest harry potter movie again. That was just plain torture.

You mean boring dialog? Oh yeah I agree. We don't need 2 hours of talk. I think there can be a lot of exposition through action scenes or tense situations. Just like how there was a lot of exposition regarding the reavers in the film. That stuff wasn't boring...it was too creepy to be boring.

Well that I could handle. I know if anyone can make it work it's Joss.

A Shepherd's Tale

During the 2007 Browncoat Cruise, a Firefly convention held aboard a cruise ship, Ron Glass announced (with Whedon's permission) several pieces of Shepherd Derrial Book's backstory, including that Derrial was not the shepherd's real name, but the name of a man he had killed as well as that Book was to be the focus of the third miniseries: A Shepherd's Tale. The comic was later confirmed by Scott Allie, senior editor at Dark Horse Comics, who stated in the letters section of Serenity: Better Days #1 that a comic based on Book's past was slated for a late 2008 release. However, as of August 2009, the comic is yet to be released.

According to Allie, A Shepherd's Tale is set primarily before Firefly, and as it is focused on a single character, it is an opportunity for the Serenity comics franchise to "go in a real different direction." Joss Whedon will remain as one of the writers, but Allie implies that the other contributors will be changing. The success of the miniseries may lead to other comics focusing on the rest of the Firefly cast, but as of June 2008, no other Serenity-based projects are in development at Dark Horse.

I left Serenity feeling very confident that Book was one of the Alliance' former agents.

Me too. Very cool. The ending when the Agent tells Mal that he's not going to be seen again reminds me of Book looking for a ship to fly away. What government secret did Book uncover?
