So I'm on the hunt for a new TV. I want to upgrade my current 42" plasma but can't get too much bigger. So it's either a 46" or 50". I know that I want a 1080p set with at least 2 HDMI inputs (3 would be optimal). I was browsing Best Buy yesterday and saw a Samsung 40" LCD playing POTC in BR and I was blown away (keep in mind I have both a HD and BR player already). The picture was damn near 3-D and just crystal clear. I should've written down the model so I could check the specs but I was in a rush. I should also mention that I'm only looking to spend in the $1500-1600 range. I don't have internet at home so I'm having a hard time shopping online right now. Can any of you suggest any TV's that would give me what I saw in Best Buy last night?

I know what you mean about that 3d effect. I saw a Sony that did that and I wanted it but sadly can not afford to upgrade right now. :monkey2

I have owned two Samsung TV's in my life and both broke within a year. They were not LCD's, but they were "tube" widescree HD TV's. Their customer service was TERRIBLE in trying to get them fixed under warranty and I had to make threats of lawsuits in order to get them to cover their own warranty.

That sucks, usually Samsung has very good quality displays.

I'd have to disagree with Kit and recommend Samsung. I love my Samsung, and haven't had a problem with it yet. This is the second i've owned (first LCD, second Samsung though) and I love it.

If money is an issue, believe it or not, you can also get a Polaroid TV (I know, but trust me). They have amazing monitors and a really good reputation. Not bad prices either. Saw a 40" 1080p LCD Polaroid the other day for $1,060. Cheapest i've seen yet.

So yeah, I say go with Samsung. Won't let you down.

I guess they just didn't like me. I was very patient, but I finally had to make threats after 3 months of no resolution. Pretty sad IMO. It turned me off to them from a product quality and customer service perspective.

I plan on looking for quite a while, just trying to see if anyone has seen any great deals or if they had any recomendations. I've been lucky when it comes to tv's, never had any issues with any of them. I've been checking Amazon a lot for reviews and because they have great prices on a lot of them as well.

Also, try going to Wal-Mart. They have really good deals a lot of the time. And i'm not a Wal-Mart fan at all, but good deals none the less.

I know they have the visio's but I heard they were only 1080i. I know they are good tv's but I'm looking to upgrade not get a similar tv.

Wow, thats horrible. My Samsung "broke" after the one year warranty, but they extended it for 90 days for me (because the TV broke in late October, and I told them I bought it mid-late October last year, so being unsure the exact date they just extended it) and the Samsung tech came out, fixed it all for free, was very nice and saved me about $400 because it was still under warranty :). I am also in NoVa Kit, so whether the Cust. Service issue was based on area, it wasn't cause they helped me just fine.

And yes I recommend Samsung, especially more than Sony, Sony is now just banking off of their name, I do not believe their quality of products are as good as they use to be.

Not sure about what ya heard, but I was there the other day and saw a few 1080p's. The Wal-Mart in Kingstowne, Northern VA.

I have a Samsung as well and it has given me no problems. I have had it for about 2 years. 1080i.....I will upgrade one day when I am not buying so many f'n toys. :lol:lol:monkey2

I live in Warrenton. They kept telling me ( For 2.5 months ) that they were "looking for an authorized repair center" to come out. I spoke to at least 10 different people. They finally sent someone out....that Tech said he knew what he needed and then never came back or returned calls. They finally found someone else. They came out and said they needed parts and ordered them. They came back out and the parts didn't fix it.

The next 2 weeks I spent on the phone trying to get them to replace the set as the repair people could not fix it. I finally made threats of a lawsuit and they finally agreed to replace the set. Finally, after 3 months, 2 "repair" centers, talking to 10 people and a lawsuit threat I got a new TV.

It was unreal and by far the worst customer service exp of my life. I will never deal with them again.

Fry's has the 50" Panasonic 1080P Plasma on sale for $1,999. Retail on it is 2,799 and it is "on sale" at CC for $2,400. A friend took the frys.com shopping cart printout to CC and got it for the Fry's price. It is an incredible TV, and an amazing price :D

Damn man sorry to hear that. And that is BS what they told you, the nearest repair center is in Ashland, VA which is about 2 hours from Oak Hill/Herndon (where am I at) and actually even closer to Warrenton. And it's their job to drive to your house.

Although the horrible customer service was unnecessary, at least in the end you got a working TV.

I know that Samsung never really had a very good reputation in the CRT world, but they have poured a lot of money and time into turning that image around in the flat panel world. They make some of the best consumer-grade Plasma and LCD display panels on the market today (both in the TV and computer monitor categories). And their prices are very competitive as well.

Regarding Vizio, they do make a very good display panel for such a relative newcomer, but their feature set is pretty limited compared to other sets. For the record, I own two Samsung displays, one Vizio, two Philips, and one Mitsubishi DLP projector. I prefer the Samsung over any of them except the Mits.

Can anyone explain what made that 40" Samsung I saw look almost 3D?

After seeing that picture, I don't know that I could settle for anything less.

Probably just because the quality of the picture at the framerate that it was running. If it was running in HD, it's just a nice picture. I get the same from my Samsung. Watching Ratatouille on Blu-ray, felt like I was in the picture.
